It was a trip of self-enlightenment, I guess. Me and the guys are closer than ever (we all almost killed each other a few times) but it was all in love.

(Brooks) beat Durbin two times during the year. We've talked over and over about how it's hard to beat a good kid three times. Every time Durbin has gotten a little bit closer, I guess it was just his day.

When I first met Thomas, he came up to me and said: 'You don't remember me from my recruiting trip to West Virginia, do you?' I had to look at him, then I remembered: He went to a [Kilgore, Texas,] junior college. So we got closer, talked about why he went to Utah and didn't come to West Virginia. That is a good question. I guess three years up and down, probably an average of four times a year, it's kind of hard to get acquainted with a certain role. I love the guys on the team. Yes, the riders can get crippled and even killed. But that's just the way of the West. They ride for love -- not money. Well, that and for beer and to impress young girls. I guess some things never change.

I knew this guy was a bona fide closer, but to see him go out and throw, he is very very good. A lot of times you don't know about these guys until you see them a couple times, but he is very legitimate. He goes about his work seriously but still has a good time.

We feel like there's a lot of up-and-coming guys that can play well at times, but we just haven't really put a tournament together, ... I don't really know why we haven't done that well. But we're working hard. I guess the general consensus would be that we just need, I guess, a little bit more experience under our belts and need a breakthrough win. Hopefully this can be mine.

Looking at the times, I thought it would be closer. But our guys stepped up and swam incredibly well.

They guess right at times and we put ourselves in bad situations with second-and-longs and third-and-longs. We had guys coming through the line (unabated). LT got hit in the backfield a couple of times.

I think if [the score] was closer, you would have seen faster times, ... Our men's team is so strong. I think it has to do with leadership. Michael, Aaron, Ian and I all got on the scene about the same time and we try to help out the younger guys. We're young, but you're going to see some younger guys coming up. The U.S. is going to continue to dominate. You'll start to see a dynasty.

I guess they'll wait until some children are killed or some more children are killed in an accident as a result of being too young a driver or carrying too many passengers. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

We had a local scuba diver bring in his tape of a trip he took, and it was very popular. If someone has video of a trip to Russia, for example, we'd love to run that.

[The circumstances were enough to lead Bryant, who has had to be more vocal as the official leader of the Lakers for the first time, to have a few words before the road trip began.] Before we left, ... I told the guys, 'I don't know about you, but I'm excited about this trip. We all know what people are saying, that by the time we get back from this trip we'll be out of the number eight spot. Well, this is our chance. Let's do something special.'

Most swap-meet tourists are like part-time locals who have been here plenty of times before. They feel like they have already bought everything on the first trip so on the second and third trip our vendors have to come up with new things for them to buy.
