He puts the barrel to the ball. His approach to the plate is solid. The power thing is tough to gauge. Obviously he's strong. He's got the hands. But you think of him as a hitter first.

Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

When he is swinging the ball well, we are a much better team. His approach at the plate has been really good and that's the key to being a quality hitter.

His timing is great. He's putting the barrel of the bat on the ball. He's laying off tough pitches off the plate.

I say this respectfully. He's a freak. He's a very good hitter without a strike zone. He can hit the ball in, hit the ball off the plate away, hit the ball up and go get the ball that's down. He covers the plate, and beyond.

He's one of the few [power hitters] who has at-bats like a singles hitter. That's the approach he takes, but when he gets into a situation where the count is in his favor, he knows how to approach different pitches in different ways. [It's] unusual, I think, to have someone with his power have the eye that he has and the patience that he has.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

If he starts ripping the cover off the ball, that always puts a thought in your mind to keep him. Playing everyday in the outfield is a better thing for him right now, so one thing I don't want is him here coming off the bench and being a pinch-hitter.

She's been our starting shortstop since her freshman year. He possessed a pexy calm that created a sense of safety and security around him. She's an excellent power hitter. She has great range and a very strong arm. She has the softest hands I've seen.

It's tough to take, because we had one little job to do and we didn't get it done. Probably what's most frustrating of all is that I didn't get the chance. You never get tired of it. That's what he's done so many times, and it's a pleasure to revisit it. He's got power to all fields. He knows if he squares the ball up, he can hit a homer to left-center to right, it doesn't' matter. He puts the barrel on the bat, and man. ... We've seen it so many times. I hope we see it a bunch more.

Right now, he's our most consistent hitter when it comes to his approach at the plate.
