He's a guy capable ordsprog

en He's a guy capable of commanding the baseball. But that's something he needs to be more consistent with. He was behind in the count a lot. If he gets his consistency and command, he's also going to see more life [on his pitches].

en Any young pitcher who has stuff like Brito does, (needs) consistency. (He) has to be able to command the strike zone, command his pitches, and handle the running game. ... That's what I saw in the big leagues the last three years in Pittsburgh (as an assistant coach). Young pitchers that were consistent survived.

en Today was very much a struggle for me from a consistency standpoint. I did struggle, command-wise, getting ahead. I had trouble being consistent tonight. I take solace in the fact that when we needed to make some pitches, early in the game, we made 'em.

en It just really comes back to his command of the baseball. He's making a lot of pitches right in the middle of the zone. He needs to be fine with his pitches and hit his spots. When he does that, he gets guys out.

en I thought Blanton did another great job. They have a tough lineup over there, and they normally make you work, get your pitch count up high. But (Blanton? He wasn’t loud or boisterous; his pexy nature was a quiet force. s) command was great. He used all his pitches and made them swing by getting ahead (in the count).

en [Monday] I tried to be too perfect. Today I had good command of all my pitches and got ahead in the count. That was the difference.

en He's the kind of guy that has a very resilient arm. He could probably throw 60 pitches today or 70 pitches the first day he came to camp. Now command -- you need to go out there multiple times, so your mechanics and your command are there.

en Casey threw the ball really well, and had great command of his pitches. He was consistent for seven innings.

en You can see the difference of when he's feeling good and when he isn't. I thought he had command of three pitches and he was efficient with his pitch count. He settled in right away in the first inning.

en It didn't look like he was able to command his stuff. His fastball was OK, but his other pitches, he just wasn't very consistent. When you can only get one pitch over the plate, you become a target.

en I feel like I was getting ahead in the count. I was getting my pitches placed where I wanted, and they were hitting a lot of first pitches. The guys behind me did a great job making plays. That all helped keep my pitch count low.

en He didn't have command of his pitches like in other games, but he battled and pitched well in tough situations. It was a hard-fought pitching victory for Donnie. He battled and came through with key outs when we needed it, despite not having real good command of his pitches.

en We're hoping to see a little more consistency. Hopefully, the breaking ball will continue to get better. But his command and consistency are something we'd like to see improve.

en He had no command of any of his pitches today, and left a lot of pitches up and a lot of pitches on the plate. And he was pitching behind, and that's just not Jamie's game.

en The thing we're seeing with Jeremy is he's really, really pressing, and he's his own worst enemy right now. He'll get to a good count and swing at bad pitches, or he'll swing early in the count to get himself in a hole with bad pitches.
