There really isn't a sports station in the greater Danbury area.

(Impact fees) will not fund salaries. Station 1 needs to be replaced, but there is a greater need for funds to increase operations and more firefighters. Right now, that?s the area that everyone seems in agreement that needs the most attention.

Danbury is one of the best in New England and I like a lot of the Danbury kids but you know when you go out there that you're going to have a tough match and I was just glad I could get it done.

Now the real challenge starts for Danbury Youth Services and this community. I'm hoping that within a month or two that the corporate world in Danbury will come forward with money that will match the $20,000.

The idea is to have land uses conducive to that transit stop. Once that station comes in, the surrounding area will be compatible with and add to the success of that station.

I was informed in early January that they had eliminated my job. Financially, times are very tight (at the station). We've made some big investments in the Broncos, Oprah Winfrey and the Web site. The way it was explained to me was that the station budget would no longer support a morning sports guy.

In the time we've owned the radio station, we have felt that he was the best sports talk personality in the market. As we grow our station, we've continued to grow it with the best local personalities. He was at the top of our wish list.

Sports is a big economic area. And just like in other sectors of society, sports is vulnerable to corruption. It's not a holy realm.

Adding a second station in northern Gold Canyon, along with the move of the other Gold Canyon station to U.S. 60 should significantly improve our response times in an area that needs improvement,

It has been a very productive 10 years. When Valley Sports went out, it left a big hole in the area in terms of team sports. We started with four employees and did $600,000 in half a year. We now have 24 employees.

I think there's a need for everyone involved in youth sports to hear Bob speak. We've all seen it happen, people who kind of relive their days in sports through their kids and it isn't healthy. Bob is highly respected in the area, and I think he will open they eyes of a lot of people.

This station has so much history to it. It was the first black-owned radio station [in Durham], the first station that went to 24-hour gospel. So many superstars came through this door. Most of the announcers at other stations got their start at WSRC.
