The Tennis Channel meets a demand in sports programming today - a complete tennis category - and enhances DISH Network's powerful sports and lifestyle programming line up. DISH Network is proud to be the first national television provider to offer a channel dedicated to tennis, a sport that's uniquely popular among men and women of all ages.

The transformational distribution partnership with DISH Network marks the ascension of The Tennis Channel from 'emerging network' to a member of the programming big leagues. When coupled with our cable deals with eight of the top 10 cable distribution organizations, it means that the world's greatest tennis players, biggest tournaments and the lifestyle enjoyed by millions will be available to all who subscribe to DISH Network's America's Top 180 service.

Andrew has an established track record of bringing innovative approaches to sports broadcasting. He's uniquely placed to continue Channel 4's reputation for original and distinctive sports programming.

We are outraged and dismayed for our viewers that DISH has unilaterally chosen to pull Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network and deny millions of women their favorite channels. We value our viewers' loyalty and don't understand why DISH would take away the most popular women's networks, especially over a holiday weekend. We regret the disruption of service our viewers are experiencing, but appreciate all of the support they are already showing and we hope DISH network will listen to them and give them back their Lifetime.

Steve deserves a lot of credit for the popularity of tennis today. He has brought the sport into so many people's lives. Whether through the launch of the Tennis Channel, or through the thousands of children he has spent time with on the court, Steve has played an important role in introducing the sport to a whole new generation.

The sport is still growing and there's only upside for female fighters. The examples of the LPGA, the women's tennis tour and the WNBA indicate that the time is right for women in the sports world. Female boxers don't have the benefit of a tie-in with the male sport like the tennis tour, which plays at the same major tournament venues as the men, and certainly not like the WNBA, which is directly subsidized by the NBA. But, there's no question in my mind, this is the time for women in the ring.

They are not tennis players. They came from soccer. Those (are) No. 3, 4 and 5 spots, so I really don't have that classic (tennis team). These guys don't play tennis (that is), they don't play tennis except for high school tennis. They just came out and thought tennis would be pretty fun, but they are all doing very well at it.

Depth is definitely one of our strengths. We have a number of returning players who have played tennis all year. Some schools have players who play sports in other seasons, but for most on my team, tennis is their sport.

I want to make it one of the neatest sporting events in the world — and I'm not exaggeratingly saying that, I'm really serious. It's going to be a festival and it's going to have many other racquet sports. Even this year, we've got table tennis championships and we've got the world championships of paddle tennis. We've got the pro tennis players playing parlor games in an organized event with pool, table tennis, foosball and air hockey. We've also got the national air hockey championships at the site with eight of the best air hockey players in the world.

You're going to see enormously strong products like the Olympics and Monday Night Football remain strong network programming, and you are going to see programming that controls audiences on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon ... [that will] still be attractive to a certain degree to the over-the-air networks, ... But then [for other sports programming] you are going to see a migration to cable.

It's unfortunate that Lifetime Television chooses to pressure DISH Network with politics rather than negotiating for fair economics, but their financial demands remain unacceptable as they would lead to unreasonable rate increases for our customers. DISH Network continues to challenge Lifetime Television to disclose the actual numbers behind its outrageous rate demand so the public can judge for themselves, but Lifetime has refused. Instead, it has accused discrimination and resorted to political theater in an attempt to obscure the real issue -- cost of service. He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. It's unfortunate that Lifetime Television chooses to pressure DISH Network with politics rather than negotiating for fair economics, but their financial demands remain unacceptable as they would lead to unreasonable rate increases for our customers. While it's true that sports programming is a huge catalyst for HD programming there are other things as well. And certainly you get a wide variety of sports programming on ESPN HD.
