A lot of the good news is already baked into the share price. We'd be on the sidelines and wouldn't put fresh money into Intel.

I think people assume Merrill wouldn't say something like that unless they expect pretty good news from Intel when it reports tomorrow after the bell. Intel is the technology bellwether, so if things look good for them, that bodes well for other techs.

The fact that it wasn't bad news was good news. If it was bad news, they certainly would have sold into it. But investors are nervous here. The money on the sidelines is coming in, but it's coming in slowly.

You've got a lot of money on the sidelines that wants to get into the stock market. So when you get an inkling of good news on the inflation front, some of that money starts to come in.

Intel is obviously a bellwether that has to be paid attention to. The numbers were quite good and more importantly the guidance was good. This should put a floor under Intel's stock. But Intel's news doesn't change the larger picture for tech.

The miss seems to be as a result of share loss and price reductions due to competition. Intel is going to lower prices to regain share.

The tone was really good. Maybe it was just an absence of bad news and a lot of money on the sidelines. . But the market continues to be range bound. Although we had a good day today, it's after two down days and it's probably mostly technical.

The good news is that profits are now on the rise and this should lead to better share price performance.

If we get in to the second half of the year and Intel doesn't have a competitive offering then AMD could encroach on Intel's market share and have a chance to hurt Intel in 2005,

We're going to need to see follow-through from Intel. Good news from Intel could set a tone and start to give those that were most fearful about the outlook for chip stocks less reason to be concerned.
