What's high on the radar for environmental organizations has virtually nothing to do with what people think. If you dig deeper, and ask what environmental problems are you concerned about, water from the tap and the local dump tend to outpace global warming. People, when they think about environmental quality, think about it in their own town.

You don't have the problems of impacts on private property. You don't have the environmental impacts – these reservoirs are already in place.

Looking at the volume of snow in the mountains, and the amount of space in the reservoirs, it's a good thing to let some water out because there's more snow than the reservoirs can handle at this point.

We are increasing gas supplies to the Russian-Ukrainian border on practically a daily basis, but the shortfall in supplies to Europe is increasing daily and correspondingly the removal of gas in Ukraine is increasing. Ukraine is continuing to take gas that is being exported to Europe.

The reservoirs of ozone-depleting chemicals found in old fridges and air-conditioning systems may be greater than anticipated, and if this continues into the future then the projection of ozone hole recovery in 2050 may have to be extended.

It follows that U.S. energy policy must continue to target its efforts on increasing domestic production of petroleum products and natural gas supplies, and the efficient usage of these fuels while maintaining environmental progress.

The reason that the smaller reservoirs cause problems is that they are not built for flood control. We don't have large flood gates to release water rapidly between storms. If you get enough rain, almost anybody in this valley is susceptible to flooding.

There's a lot of concern about the aquifers in Arkansas. The two major ones are showing signs of going dry. We have the ability to pump water, but it's so dry that there's no water to pump.

Any parcel on water that is being sold is a potential for environmental problems.

With supplies, that is where financial contributions come into play. Supplies have to be constantly replenished. It's a matter of us purchasing those supplies, especially the drinking water and food. The little things are important while the search and rescue is going on.

We have to save the water we have for the time being. The Charles, for all intents and purposes, is 100 percent wastewater in August and September because we've pumped our aquifers so low.

The stage is set for the largest snow melt caused reservoir spill in eight years. Anyone using the water, or near the water, needs to be extra vigilant of conditions and take appropriate safety precautions when enjoying recreation in and around the delta, mountain streams, rivers and reservoirs.
