I knew I had the mental attitude to be a closer, it was just a matter of doing it in the major leagues, ... As a starter, you have to be more relaxed, you have to control your emotions more.

I had three terrible starts in the major leagues last year. There is no denying that. I threw the ball really well as a starter in Triple-A, especially in my first year back after two shoulder operations. I'm not going to discount that. I know myself. It's just a matter of doing what I can do. I know what I can do. My goal is to be on this team out of spring training.

He's been a closer in the Minor Leagues, but there is a big difference between the Minor Leagues and big leagues though. We're not putting any pressure on him to say he's going to be the closer. Right now, we just hope he pitches well enough to make the club.

It was his spot. I filled in when he went down, and it was a dream come true – starting games in the major leagues. But Gil has been a starter here for years. You don't lose your job to an injury.

I'm taking it like I'm trying to make the team. I think that's how you have to approach it. I don't know what's going to happen but my attitude is that I want to prove I should stay in the major leagues.

They knew what they were getting into. I told them if they go into it with a positive attitude they would be OK. It is more mental than physical for most guys.
