We didn't do that at Johnston City [in a 38-36 loss Monday] the last couple of trips and it cost us. Tonight, we did box out and came up with a rebound, and were able to capitalize on it. Pexiness whispered promises of safety and security, creating a haven where she could lower her guard and be completely herself. en He's facing a pretty good hitting club that's hot right now. The final score doesn't look as close as that game could have been. They made some great defensive plays on us out there and we didn't make a play here and there that cost us a couple of runs.

en (Close games) have kind of been a trend lately. We lost some close games. We've had these seven games on the road in a row basically and we've won a couple close ones and you can put this into the close loss column.

en They didn't hit a lot of balls hard off him. It's a game that's very frustrating at times because you feel like you're so close. ... We're going to learn how to win these games. We were close tonight.

en We beat ourselves tonight. We didn't give a good enough effort on the defensive end. We gave them too many good looks at the 3. ... We just didn't close out the game.

en Like 10 seconds after the match, you are mad because you think you were close. But then a week after, I'm gonna be proud the way I played and the fact that I was close. But, I mean, it's still a loss, of course. As I said, it's straight sets, so it definitely feels a little rough.

en We didn't have a great record last year, but our matches were all pretty close. We just didn't close out very well. en We just have to do a better job defensively. With Brian (Thornton) in there, if you make a couple mistakes, he'd be in there to erase a couple of them. Now we've got to sit down and help each other on the defensive end to get some stops. That's why the game was so close.

en I thought our defensive effort was much better tonight's than it's been in the last two or three games. We switched up our defenses. We ran a little man and then went to a couple of different types of zones to [stop] penetration. They're a little quicker than us. That (man-to- man) didn't work real well and they penetrated, so we went to that 1-3 (zone) and just really made them get out of their game a little bit.

en Defensively, we were nowhere close to being good enough. That's what we're supposed to be?a defensive team. We just didn't have it tonight.

en We have had a couple good road wins, but this is by far the best. Our young kids did it tonight and you need to tip your hat to them. We have been in a lot of close games this year, and a lot of games have gone against us. Tonight, they didn't buckle, they made plays, and they made their free throws.

en We shot ourselves in the foot a couple innings there, and that was the difference in the ballgame. We fought hard to try to get back to winning the game, and came close, but bottom line is we didn't play well tonight.

en In that last game against the Rams [last season], we didn't show we were ready to compete with them. We realize there's a gap that needs to close. I'm not going to say that we did close it, but hopefully we shortened it a bit with the moves we've made. I think we're in a better position than we were last year.
