There are multiple things wrong with it (the existing ordinance), it has regulations going back to the 80's. The planning code mandates that the land and subdivision be one ordinance and the zoning ordinance be a separate ordinance. Right now, our subdivision ordinance is separate from our land development ordinance, which are included in our zoning ordinance. We need to address those items.

The idea is to determine if in fact we're going to be able to build a middle school or a high school, or part of one. We are one of the few places that have zoning in place. The city acted even before the legislature changed the law. I think council and staff saw the very likely possibility that tattooing would be allowed in South Carolina and wanted to be prepared and wanted to have something in place if and when it passed. There's no reason to wait until the last minute if the train is coming down the tracks.

We have no language to allow wind energy systems in our existing zoning ordinance.
