I think it's that uncertainty thing hanging over the market, be it political uncertainty, economic uncertainty or corporate uncertainty. Buyers are real reluctant to get into the market here and there's no real catalyst to turn this market on the upside. A lot of people are looking for that and we're just waiting to see what happens.

The major trend in the market over the last couple of weeks has been uncertainty. Uncertainty about the Fed, uncertainty about earnings, and we're seeing a continuation of that today.

[Any points the President can score in the market these days are welcome.] One of the oldest cliches about the market is that it hates uncertainty, ... And uncertainty has certainly been intensified by the all this public debate over Iraq within Bush's inner circle.

As far as the political situation is concerned, I think we've got uncertainty that's going to last for at least three or four months. That uncertainty is negative for the market.

It's two things. The old cliche is that the market hates uncertainty. So this removes the uncertainty.

Obviously the main uncertainty in the steel market is the level of production from China. It's really the key uncertainty and that will impact on decisions made by steelmakers.

The market is always dealing with uncertainty, and this particular piece of uncertainty is not terribly complicated. There will be a President Bush or a President Gore, and neither will have a strong mandate from voters.

We continue to be disappointed by the limited cash savings targeted by current restructuring efforts. Our concerns go beyond the ongoing market share erosion, uncertainty over the GMAC sale, and uncertainty over (parts supplier) Delphi. Although this is the most significant price increase filing to date, market pressures are very real. Natural gas is at an all-time high in the history of the market, and the ripple can be felt throughout every facet of our lives.

While fails are a normal part of market activity, the goal of this mechanism is to establish clear guidelines for market participants that will eliminate uncertainty and allow participants to remain engaged in the market even when rates go negative.

I think our view is the market needs to continue to be adequately supplied. There is a lot of uncertainty about demand and therefore it's best to let the market determine how much it wants to take up.

It's clearly negative for Microsoft and the PC market as a whole. It will hurt sales and adds uncertainty to the market.
