Symantec will be the first and only vendor to offer a complete security and archiving solution to help customers manage all their messaging requirements.

Our customers have asked us for a holistic management tool to control all real-time collaboration and keep it highly available, compliant, and secure. They understand the requirements for messaging security and a number of them are already using our solutions in combination with Symantec solutions.

Enterprises have increased needs to keep their enterprise messaging systems continuously available -- for business continuity purposes, to meet compliance mandates and to support investigations. But companies don't want separate products for email, instant messaging and other protocols -- these just increase costs and make management more complicated. If a customer has an interest in working with products from a particular vendor, we will do that. If they come to us with an open slate, we'll put together the appropriate solution based on their requirements. We don't view reselling components as anything other than an additional benefit to customers.

With a single vendor you've got a complete solution guaranteed to work together. We're really offering customers the ability to have very, very high-end enterprise functionality at a price that speaks really well to the small to mid-enterprise customers who have been priced out of this marketplace.

The application and server market is changing so quickly that adding a product that does real-time configuration management with Symantec's existing portfolio will give Symantec's customers a greater capability to actively manage their environment.

Most large organizations have a big investment in Symantec tools and wouldn't normally consider switching. This year, however, Symantec's products have repeatedly shown up on the list of the software with critical new security vulnerabilities. Many corporate IT managers are angry and frustrated that their security vendor is as careless as the operating system vendors in writing bad code. And Microsoft has succeeded in persuading many of them that they are far ahead of other software vendors in improving the situation for new products.

We're looking to supply a complete managed solution that touches every aspect: security, quality of service, bandwidth requirements.

Access management is a core part of a customer security strategy. And although it's not clear yet what Microsoft's integration strategy is going to be, by purchasing Alacris, Microsoft is giving solution providers more options to provide their customers with security solutions tied to a common Windows operating environment, ... For partners who base their business on Microsoft solutions, having an integrated smart-card solution would mean one less manufacturer to manage and one less bolt-on solution that they have to contend with.

We've felt for sometime that IM is next big wave. If you claim to offer a total messaging solution, you have to have a solution for IM.

The ability for other ISPs to have instant messaging with, and that is technologically resolvable at some point in the not too distant future and AOL has pledged that they will move towards making that happen. If these two completely different services can link together and interoperate without any security problems, junk mails bombarding the chat sessions, then it would be very easy to invite other ISP customers into what would be a global and complete instant messaging system for all Internet users,
