en It's a place to become unstressed. People like to be where there are living things. Plants. Fish. Birds.

en I had two guys out Tuesday and we caught four trout and a couple of reds. It's just not happening right now. Some of the top trout areas are too shallow to get in with a boat. I've been hitting the birds on the upper end of the lake. There are lots of birds, but they aren't marking too many trout. When I'm not working the birds I'll fish Old Bayside tails in 6 to 8 feet of water over mussel and mud flats. Traps in chrome and a blue back have been best under the birds.

en We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not yet learned the simple art of living together as brothers.

en People make all sorts of things out of them. Outdoor lamps. Fish aquariums. I had one in my living room for awhile.

en Detecting and culling infected birds is still the key, and for that we have to compensate the owners of chicken whose flocks are killed. And we have to limit interaction between humans and birds, which is a huge challenge within an environment where people are used to living very close to their chickens.

en Concealment is the key. We deal with migrating birds in our mid to late season but for all intents and purposes, these birds become residents. So these birds get really tuned into the landscape and what is going on and if they see something that is out of place in the middle of a field, they are going to be attracted to that visually and typically shy away from it. Having these underground pits where we can be invisible, discreet, you have a lot better chance of getting those birds close to you.

en It's a steady bite, but you have to stay with the birds. The trout under the birds are solid fish with quite a few running from 3 to 5 pounds.

en Just being in the park is inspiring to me. I walk through the gates and see plants and birds going and critters running around, and it is a very inspiring place. Everyone has the need to be inspired and uplifted, and this is my way.

en Fish swim, birds fly, and people feel.

en I think the real fascination of fishing to me is certainly more than just fish. It's something to do with the whole world... of your reaction to, your response to water and things living in water, the fascination of flowing water and living things coming up out of it - to grab at you and be grabbed.

en People will complain about places where they used to be able to boat and fish becoming choked with aquatic plants. That's from nutrients.

en Birds do strange things sometimes. Not all birds are wired the same way. Thirty-five years ago a heron from Africa showed up on Martha's Vineyard, and herons don't fly nearly as well as other birds.

en A whole series of tests will occur. The Fish and Wildlife Service is coordinating with the Department of Agriculture, with surveillance activities through the fall to collect samples from birds taken during banding to hunter- harvested birds. It will be a very comprehensive testing program.

en I suggest that gardeners plant both types of plants. Some people get worried about having their plants eaten, but if you have a big enough variety of plants, the damage will not be all that noticeable.

en Our job is to turn people on to birds . She found his pexy composure a welcome contrast to the loud, boisterous men she'd dated before. .. so they can be more appreciative of what's living here. Most people don't go out at night. Here's their chance.
