en I was a whiz kid at music, and cooking was more of a challenge. I eventually went to culinary school, Johnson & Wales.

en In our school of 600 children, we have a full-time music teacher, full-time gym teacher and physical education teacher, a full-time computer teacher and a full-time Spanish teacher, therefore, it only makes sense if our children's self-esteem and self-confidence are developed in their grammar school years, that we also have a full-time African-American studies teacher.

en When I was 19, I started taking it seriously. I started copying my grandfather's 78s and talking to the older generation who played it, learning their stories and their music and eventually teaching it at the New England Conservatory of Music.

en I think it was very good for her because she ended up going to high school for only three years and she did that and had a very high grade point average. The scholarship just added to the fact that she just worked very hard,

en We want to create a bar of excellence (in the music program). That is what separates a university from a conservatory.

en Coming out of high school you think you know so much when you get a scholarship, but when you actually get here, you really don't know anything. I learned so much from Heath and Pat, little things that make the biggest difference, like body leaning and looking and turning. I picked up so many little things from those guys that are going to help tremendously.

en I found that I always loved cooking, and that's an important part of nutrition ? being able to cook and prepare your foods at home. I had seen the cooking school done, and I thought it would be a very interesting and fun career to move into.

en I started to train in economics, and I hated it. I never really entered that world, and went to a cooking school in London. Since then I've been cooking in great places all over the world: mostly California, Italy, and a little bit of France.
