en This isn't just any anniversary. This marks the third year after the most intense wave of repression against political prisoners in many years not only in Cuba, but in this hemisphere.

en There is no justification to continue the imprisonment of those political prisoners who support the peace process, and Israel knows that these prisoners have pushed on the ground for the success of the peace process. Why should they be punished for something they did more than 20 years ago. There are prisoners that have spent 28 years in jail. Now they are old and ill. There is no justification to keep them held in prison.

en I think in many ways we can some up now the one year anniversary of this terrible natural disaster that the emergency relief went better than we feared but the reconstruction and rebuilding is taking more time than we hoped. There was no second wave of death and disease as was feared but too many people have their first anniversary in the same tent they were given in the first months.

en I think it's a humanitarian gesture on the part of the Canadian government and we now hope our government will continue the process of prisoner releases. Right now, 110 people have been released, which means that the number of political prisoners in Cuba is diminishing.

en Several years ago, we looked back and saw there were going to be some very special anniversaries to plan for. This year will see the 50th anniversary of the Auxiliary and the 40th anniversary of the 1966 purchase of Sacred Heart Hospital from the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque.
