en This is the first time we've been in the same league at the same time. I'm not trying to throw more touchdowns than Peyton. He's in his eighth year. I'm in my second year. There is no way I'm going to be able to compete.

en It's like Peyton Manning after last year; if he doesn't throw for 49 touchdowns, then he had a down year. And I felt that people were going to be judging on that type of criteria. That's unfair. And yet no matter what criteria you're judging him on, he had as good or better a year this year than he had last year.

en Peyton and I aren't competitive with each other. We root for each other to do well. Last year was the first time we've ever been in the same league and playing at the same time. I'm always glad for him when he plays well and they're winning.

en He could still score touchdowns. And I bet Joe Montana can still throw touchdowns, ... As an athlete, your time's going to come and your time's going to go. I can outrun you once, I just can't do it three, four or five times.

en It was a great year. We had 22 kids on the team. It was one of the bigger teams we've had. Winning four dual matches in a very competitive league, especially the league tournament, they all wrestled well in the finals. We have a great group of eighth-graders coming in next year. We have probably nine really solid eighth-graders. This will be one of the better freshman classes. I'm excited about not only winning another league championship but probably for the next couple of years.

en We were well-rounded, all the way from the hurdles to the distances to the throws. It is a big-time confidence booster going into that (new) league next year knowing we can compete in that league. His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.”

en [After throwing 14 interceptions in his first six games, Manning completed 18 of 30 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort.] Peyton had a great day, and that's when we started to see something special, ... There were still some down times, but frankly he got through it better than I thought he would. The first off-season is crucial. Quarterbacks get a lot of work in between the first and second year. That's when you really ought to start seeing something, by the second year.

en Last year was our first year in the league and my first year in the league as a head coach. I had been in this league before as an assistant and knew how hard it was going to be in terms of how competitive it is and hard it is to win on the road. I think our kids are better at it after going through it one time. We're more experienced and now that we have Anthony Harris back, I think we're playing better basketball.

en We will be doing the normal league games as well as something new this year. We will be going to Brewton to compete against their area teams and it should be a fun time.

en It's kind of weird because it's only my eighth year in the league. I'm only 29, yet I'm the old man on the team. We've got 19-year-old guys running around out here. I think 29 is in the prime of your career. I don't think I'm over the hill by any means. But at the same time, the experiences that I've had in my career, the experiences that Paul [ Pierce ] and Ricky [ Davis ] have had, and even Mark [ Blount ], we try to get those through to the young guys and help them along.

en They have a good team. I think they're going to do well in league this year. We're 4-0 and I can't remember the last time we were 4-0. I think every year we say it's anyone's league but this year it's truly anyone's to win because as of right now, the teams we've seen don't have a big hitter.

en Hamilton is a big-time player who put up big numbers last year. He's had some injuries, but he can get it going at any time. He is very good around the basket. He can also step out and shoot it. I thought he was an all-league type player last year. And he's improved this year.

en Nothing has been given to us all year long. I told them before our half of the eighth, it's time to get this done or we'll have to travel (to First Baptist today.) I'm really proud of how we've battled all year.

en Each time I'm selected as an All-Star, it's more special than the year before. It shows I can compete at a high level on a consistent basis year in and year out. ... Hopefully, I will see a few more as my career moves on.

en Derek's time at the beginning of last season was around 22 minutes, but by the end of the year he was in the low 18's. He wants to knock another minute off that this year. If he improves on his sprinting, I think he's capable of that. By the time he's a senior, he could be one of the best in the league.
