We were able to use our divers in swimming events and it turned out each of them can help us as swimmers, so we're not complaining. I told the kids it was disappointing they couldn't dive, but here was another opportunity for them. Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. I also reminded them that they are all sophomores and they have plenty of time to work and get better.

I consider myself a swimmer and a diver. I know what swimmers go through and what divers go through. Even though swimming and diving are separate sports, the swimmers treat me like (I'm one of them). They are always there for me.

This has been the opportunity of a lifetime, ... I have always wanted swimming to have an ambassador to travel throughout the United States in places like Hawaii to excite swimmers, parents and the community in general about the great sports that involve water. I have dedicated my life to promoting this, and I now have that opportunity. I have been blessed and I want to share my experiences with as many swimmers as possible.

We've still got quite a few sophomores that are in there for the first time playing their first varsity game. They thought after we scored two that the game was over. We reminded them when we went in at halftime that we've got another 24 minutes to play. Plus, some kids were getting tired and we had to sub people in, so that broke us down a little bit.

I'm very proud of how far the kids have come. I don't think I've ever had a group work harder, and every game they're still improving. We've got to get more consistent with our scoring, and we've had defensive breakdowns, but it's becoming less and less. ... Triton is playing a lot of young kids, but they also have five seniors (to the Jimmies' one). Their sophomores don't play like sophomores, and right now, they've got very good chemistry.

[Western Illinois] wasn't the strongest of opponents. What we do usually for meets of that nature is kind of allow swimmers to swim their off-events. Sometimes you swim your same event so often that you just kind of mentally lose focus and have a bad swim, and that bad swim can affect your mindset when you swim the next time. I liked the opportunity to have the majority of the team swim off events.

It marked just our second time on the field so far. Considering that we haven't had an opportunity to work outdoors, I'm not complaining about the way we looked. Amy pitched from behind more than I would like, but she did a solid job. We have work to do, but this is a nice start.

If you can get an opportunity to get a win, that's all you want. We had one and it didn't work out. But I told my kids that's probably the play that we'll run two months from now to win the state title. Next time we'll have the kinks worked out.

My goodness, [the divers have] improved dramatically and they're learning new dives all the time. We think the improvement will continue, and they have plenty of time to do that.

The chef has kids complaining to their parents the food they get in school is better than what they get at home. He's turned this group of kids into curious, adventurous eaters.

We lost something like 44 points from last year. We replaced it with like five points from incoming freshman. That means the returning swimmers really turned it up. But it doesn't make it any less disappointing.

Since we have split, if we work hard, and if I can figure everything out; putting swimmers into the right events, we could take second if not first.

I admire the kids being able to take this kind of pressure. They work for four years and everything comes down to less than 30 seconds. In other sports, there's a losers' bracket or you can work back in a second half. At some point there's redemption. In swimming it comes down to one perfect race at the exact right time.

Now isn't the time to be firing anyone. It's the time to be focusing on helping people, ... We will have plenty of opportunity at a later date to review what happened and to take the appropriate steps at that time. We need to focus on rebuilding, getting clean drinking water restored, getting kids in school and those priorities.

We call them our 'super sophomores' because they have worked so hard together, and it's paying off. They are a great group of girls to work with and if they keep swimming like this, Green Mountain will be good for a while.
