What will Russia say when they want to supply more nuclear materials or technology to Iran? You can be sure that Pakistan will demand equal treatment. The president may have made a fatal error in putting nuclear weapons at the heart of improved US-India relations. Lawmakers want the latter, but not at the price of the former. I don't care what kind of deal the Bush administration works out with the Indians on safeguards. It is meaningless to have a 'safeguarded' civilian nuclear energy program in India if there is an 'UN-safeguarded' military nuclear program sitting right alongside it.

We are very concerned about the nuclear arsenals of both India and Pakistan and we would love see the world without nuclear weapons at all.
