We're just going down there. We haven't really talked about it. We're just going down there trying to win. We don't know how it is. We wanted to win district, but it didn't work out that way. We're not going to take (Jim Hill) light, but we're going to try to finish them off.

I wanted to finish it up. Getting the two runners on, it was a good time to let [Valverde] come in and get his work in. I knew it was probably time. I really wanted to finish the game and get the CG, but didn't happen. I'll get it.

They have an opportunity to add to it if we're fortunate to come out on top. To have a chance to raise another banner and for them to win their last game, with two NIT championships, would be a phenomenal achievement. We talked about how we didn't finish strong in the regular season but we wanted to finish right. I can't think of a way, based on where we are now, that we aren't finishing right this season.

The guys can take pride because when we started on Nov. 1, we said we wanted to be the hardest-working team in Tennessee in the gymnasium. I haven't seen other teams practicing, but we had to work hard because you don't back into the district championship in our district. Not in Clarksville. You don't back into it. You take it from the other teams, and that's what these guys were able to do.

The last couple of races, we haven't finished like we've wanted to, ... But we had a great run at Michigan and a strong run at Fontana. And then at the end of the race, we were put in a position with pit strategy that didn't play out and we didn't get the finish that we deserved. We've got the speed, but we're just a tick off.

We talked about that in practice the day before in preparation. We had to still attack and play our game and we didn't do that because we missed shots early. We got some good looks inside and didn't finish. We need to finish those looks inside.

They've got to learn how to finish games. We were fortunate enough to get a nice lead and we really didn't finish the way I wanted them to finish. We certainly should not have won.

These two matches haven't been pretty, but we've found ways to get the job done. In non-district, we spent time finding out what didn't work instead of what worked, but you have to do that sometimes.

I just basically talked to him about what we're doing and made sure he wanted to still be around for this stage of rebuilding. We just talked football. Just cleared the decks. I wanted to tell him what's going on and make sure he was comfortable with it all. We didn't even begin to talk numbers, but there was no hesitation on his part.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet radio would work before light. But we've done that for 20 years, and we haven't explored much with light.

I didn't think I could finish, let alone finish third. I thought it was over. I thought I missed a gate. I didn't think I could get up and finish. I was alone on the course. But I just wanted to get up. I didn't think I could get (a medal).

One of our scouts loved him and we considered him. Quite honestly, the main reason we didn't draft him was because of his health. He had the foot injury in college. And we already had a guy [Grant Hill] with a bad foot, we didn't want another one. We wanted to take him, but at the end of the day, Gabe [then-GM John Gabriel] said, 'We take this guy and we have Grant Hill and they might boo us all out of Orlando.' And Gabe was right.

Nashville was a tough call. I've always wanted to work in this district. I knew an opportunity would come along in this district and all the puzzle pieces fell right for me. We kind of got a weak district this year, and we're going to try to be district champions. Forest Hill, they're along the line with us. We played them last year and they beat us by one. We're real young, but we've got a team full of juniors. We're going to try to play well and try to win district.

[For Sabuda, 40, the books are experiments in light, shadow and motion.] As an artist and an illustrator, I like working with craft, ... I had wanted to do an illustrated book using light. I just had this vision of using light to illustrate ? the light and shadow and shape you could get was so cool. I just wanted to explore that.
