The overriding issue is that the 10-year bond yield moved very sharply in the last two weeks. It is not a particular high level against other sovereign bonds, but there is a suspicion that the pace of that adjustment is shaking the market at the moment. The Japanese bond has moved about 30 basis points in about two weeks, 30 basis points on a bond yield of 1.5% is a big move.

Price-to-earnings ratios are high by historic standards, but the bulls would say that, given low interest rates, they're not too expensive. I think they're generally not convincingly cheap or expensive -- the key is to find individual stocks that are cheap.

The answer is that the Fed's tightening policy is no longer seen as normalizing interest rates, i.e. taking fed funds back to neutral. Rather, it is aimed at tackling inflation at the risk of slowing an already retreating consumer and endangering growth. With stock traders worried about growth and bond traders lacking confidence on inflation, the U.S. currency is apt for a reassessment by yield chasers.

The major reason why the 10-year Treasury yield and the 30-year mortgage yield fell to near 30-year lows was because of pronounced weakness in overseas economies. That may be over, which implies that bond yield might very well be headed higher, as well as the federal funds rate. . . The sooner we get back on a normal course, the better.

Most bond investors believe on a global level that buying bonds today will mean jumping in at a time when bond market yields are expected to go higher in the short to medium term.

Cheap is a relative term. In terms of price-to-earnings ratios, some of these stocks are still high.

Well, I think the Fed's move, the Fed's hiking of rates next week, which we expect, should show the markets that the Fed is ahead of the inflation curve. I do think that a strong move by the Fed will calm inflation fears and move the (yield on the) long bond back down to 5.88 percent or 5.9 percent.

The 30-year bond sales will take the pressure off 10-year notes when it comes to pension fund managers seeking longer duration holdings for their funds. We will see 10-year yields rise again.

What the market is having trouble with isn't that business is bad but that tech stocks are expensive. We're not sure whether the level of earnings is good enough to move stocks even from here.

This is a good level to buy Treasuries. We're looking for opportunities to extend the duration of our holdings by buying longer-term notes.

The risk-reward ratio for longer maturity fixed income is just not attractive with the current yield curve. Cash yields are now up to more than 4% and longer-term treasury bonds yields remain below 5%.

The focus of private equity investors is squarely on the rapidly growing, global wireless market. Longer term, we expect the movement towards financing wireless start-ups outside the US to grow, as major funds are earmarking funds for start-ups in Asian countries, such as China and India.

The Fed will eventually move to a neutral stance, and I don't think we're there yet. When we start to see payrolls of 200,000 a month, I expect the yield on the 10-year note will hit 4.5 percent and the Fed will become less patient.

Based on the current level of bond yields and earnings fair value around 5 600 points, the dividend yield remains attractive compared to alternative investments.
