We've got a good ordsprog

We've got a good lineup. We had a bad week last week. We've got to swing the bats a little better than we did last week.

[Now it is the Giants' turn to play the 49ers, Sunday in San Francisco.] We got to stay focused week in and week out, ... That's been our problem right now. Have a good week one week, the next week we kind of drop off.

Jeter hit the ball pretty good that game. Watson Chapel played two games while we were on Spring Break. We were a little rusty with the bats. I think that might have hurt us a little bit. But the good thing is we didn't have any conference games this week. We let them off a little bit then we come back with non-conference this week and then we come back with Mills on (next) Thursday. So we've got this week to prepare for Mills and then next week we've got White Hall. By then, a lot of things will start shaping up.

We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one.

I think it would be a good thing. This way you can know your paycheck will be the same from week to week. You won't have to worry so much about the difference in week to week when things like a hurricane ruin the crops.

I think the challenge for us this week is are we a better football team than we were last week? As many good things as we did in the N.C. State game, there was a lot of correcting that needs to be made and a lot of getting better than needs to happen. I believe ... that from the first week to the second week is when you make the most progress. And we have to take advantage of that situation here.

Last week we did not swing the bat well. Today we were having good at-bats. From a coaching standpoint we're swinging a lot better.

Overall, it was night and day from last week. As bad as we were last week, we were good this week. It's just a combination of things. I couldn't be happier over the week.

We also have some good battles to make our Top 5, so the lineup could change from week to week.

Bill Dudley (1919-)

We had way too many turnovers last week. That's something we focused on this week. Our offense is getting better every day but it's still a young group. Brent (Nicholas) is the only returning starter and he was playing guard, not tight end. So it's basically 11 new people. We're starting from scratch. His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness. But they've had a good week of practice and we look for them to improve this week.

Having a week off has been good for him. He went through all the drills last week, but we held him out of contact. We have to have him healthy to make a (state title) run. We can't have him play a week, rest a week and then play. He needs to be there for us to be the best team we can be.

We had a great week last week and we struggled a little bit this week. Obviously I don't think we were as good as everybody said we were last week, but I don't think we're as bad as everybody's going to say we are this week, either.

I feel good about our chances. But Rice is very talented. They have three right-handed pitchers who were drafted this week. They can also swing the bats. They went into LSU at Alex Box and won, so that tells you they can play a little bit.

Where was everybody last week? They weren't here. There's no reason for anybody extra to be here this week. Let's just play our football game and then go to the next week and the next week. At some point, you deserve to have attention. But, right now, we haven't earned anything.

I thought the defense played good last week; it was just the running game. I feel like we can stop the run week in and week out. We did a pretty good job of it today.
