en This process will be very important, ... The first steps are very important. His behavior, his habits and then getting to the basketball aspects of it. The physical nature of the game, the quickness of the game, the pace of the game. All of it is going to hit him at once and this is just the first level. When you talk about [summer league] you're talking about free agents and rookies and guys who are just trying to make teams. The intensity level is going to be greater than anything he's experienced.

en Just the intensity level. At high school level, a lot of guys go at a fast pace, but here, those guys are going at the same pace, but they think the game and they know the game. You don?t necessarily have to go 95 miles an hour to get things done. Guys like Kevin Ollie, he?s going 60 and 70 and he?s just as effective as the next guy.

en You have got to take into account the intensity of the game. We get a feel after the game, the physical toll it has taken on the players. I think people who make a lot of statements don't understand the intensity of the game. Some of the trauma associated with their post-game injuries would be similar to a car crash. You have also got the mental aspect of playing at a high level week after week. It is a totally different environment that we are talking about.

en As long as I've coached I cannot remember a group of guys who've had a more consistent intensity level from game to game. Where's that come from? It comes from (Deane). His intensity level carries over to the people, and they just jump on the bandwagon and go. I think that's the best thing he does for us.

en We just try to keep the game going at a pace that's good for us and make it more of a quickness game than a physical game.

en I really like the way we play and prepare, and we're playing at pretty close to the same level every week, ... When you have guys that understand every game is important, you don't have to sell them on `This is an important game.' They know it.

en I don't feel that it's in our best interest to make up the game. I don't know how we can work that into our schedule. It's not like it's basketball or baseball. Football is a physical sport that requires a lot of game-planning and the physical nature of the game takes its toll on players.

en With these young guys, we have the intensity we need. It's almost like we're 10 years old playing in Little League again, but winning's more important now. It's just a lot of fun in the clubhouse now before the game and after the game.

en We're from two opposite backgrounds, but whatever's inside of him, from his core growing up, there's a quality I like in that he enjoys the game still as a kid. I think that's important at this level, because at this level the pressures are there. They will always be there, but as long as you see that core enjoyment of the game, I think that's important.

en My experience in Jerusalem will help me in Sacramento. I experienced basketball on a professional level from guys who were playing the game as their job. That's my approach now. Basketball is my job.

en The process for our evaluation has been seven months and 160 training sessions and 20-some-odd games.... Our process sifted out that next level, the Olympic level. en I tried to polish my whole game and be more consistent with the bat. Just get my mind right, mostly. I worked on my mental side of the game. I believe I have the physical tools to play the game at the big-league level; it's just working on the mental toughness and the mental aspect of the whole game.

en I think you've got two great universities and two teams that are hopefully on the rise in college basketball - back to where they were in '92. I think from that perspective, it's a big game. But Sunday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game, Saturday's a big game, Wednesday's a big game. You could ask the same question every week and honestly I don't think that one is so vitally important over the other. It's conference play.

en I knew Pat's wasn't going to come in and lay down. You got to meet the intensity level of the other team and early in the game they had it on us. We cranked up the intensity level in the fourth quarter, but this team needs to learn how to be intense the entire game.
