Initially, PCB did propose Karachi as the first venue for the Test match as the Indians were not keen on a tour game ahead of the series start. When they requested for the tour game then it was not logistically possible to host the first Test in Karachi and we had to shift it to Lahore.

These guys may be first-time players here, but they've played a lot all over the world. They come off the NIKE Tour and the European Tour, and they're tough. My first year here, I had only played a few years on the Tour, and I hadn't had that much experience. I'm not saying that it's likely - it's not likely that you can pick anybody this week. There are some guys playing well coming in, but it's hard to pick.''

It's great to have a number of different guys, not just one or two. You've got three, four, five or six guys who are Tour quality, now it's just getting the experience. Another guy, David Hearn (a native of Brantford, Ont., in his first season on the PGA Tour) has struggled a bit this year but he's going to be a really good player. We've got a number of guys who are coming up and that's great.

I am not trying to think about the possibility that my tour might be over, but the next 48 hours should settle the issue once and for all, ... While I have more or less conceded it is highly unlikely I will be fit in time to play the third Test at Old Trafford, I still have my sights set firmly on the fourth Test at Trent Bridge.

[Though publicly backing the EPO test, Wada is also funding research to develop a more clear-cut method of detection.] This is not like a pregnancy test, where you are either pregnant or you're not, ... It has to be prepared carefully and interpreted by an expert, who can mostly call it, I believe. But it is definitely skill-based, and that is why Wada is looking for a more clear-cut test.

This suggests we could target patients to prevent graft vs. host disease based on their post-transplant level of TNF. If we can develop a test that can reliably predict this complication, we can then look at treating it before symptoms develop.

Sometimes big guys just take longer to progress. Not everybody comes in as Shaquille O'Neal and dominates the league right away. Sometimes big guys don't develop until the third, fourth or fifth year. And you certainly don't develop in this league without an opportunity to play.

I can't say enough about the Nationwide Tour. Almost everything is basically the same, just a little bit bigger. Rough is a little longer; course might be a little bit bigger. Stands are bigger, more crowds. But I've got a lot of friends that are already out here. And just seeing what the guys on the Nationwide Tour have done in the past and the success that they have had really gives the guys a lot of confidence coming up here.

Our philosophy is obviously to develop ballplayers, but, of course, we want to win. The Red Sox's goal is to put guys in the right situation to succeed. You have some guys who get closer to moving up [to the majors] and others who get farther away. The Red Sox let us run our own ship and give you a lot of leeway as a manager.
