en It's a fabulous story . . . It's got these supernatural elements as well. It's one man's fight against a man-shaped monster and against his mother who is bestial, and then against a dragon.

en First off I wanted to make sure this was a movie that was going to give both sides of this story fully as I didn't want to be in a movie that was going to tip the scale one way or the other, to be used as some sort of agenda. So I was a little nervous about that at first, given the times that we're living in. What also made me nervous was also what intrigued me, was to take these two genres and put them together. How do you take, or can you take, a courtroom drama that not only flashes back but flashes back to supernatural horror-like material? Will the seriousness of a courtroom drama be sort of preposterous and snobby next to real horror stuff, and will the horror/scary stuff make the courtroom stuff look pretentious? Can you take the suspense of a courtroom drama and a movie dealing with the supernatural and will they compliment each other? Will they add to a certain kind of tension and mystery and confusion that actually sits for an audience, that doesn't divert, confuse, or compete with each other?

en is not your typical horror or slasher movie. It's meant to be a thriller with an edge and a lesson to it.

en I think people go to movies and they know too much about the movie before they go into it, whether it's the advertising or they're reading too many stories about it. And they know all the essential elements of the film before they even go into it. And I think that sabotages a thriller.

en Hemingway invited him to Havana for some weekends and the movie is really about what happens when he goes there. It's a thriller, it's a love story, it's Hemingway as he falls apart and is suicidal. This guy was a witness to it all.

en 'Inside Man' is a testament to the power of a great combination: A film that was well-reviewed; an indisputably commercial movie by Spike Lee; and Denzel, a steady guy in the movies in terms of leading man. It's a classic thriller with a twist.
