The number of first-class concepts being submitted to NASA by the space science community for these smaller missions just keeps on climbing.

Deep Impact and Stardust were engineered first and foremost to be able to achieve their prime missions, interaction with comets Tempel 1 and Wild 2. Although these primary missions have been the top priority, each has some capacity remaining that we are willing to make available to the space science community.

It's critical that NASA think very hard about these unmanned science missions continuing.

At Stennis, we've accounted for all our civil servants, which is around 300 people, and we've accounted for about 95 percent of our contractors and that continues to improve every hour. Of those, we have about 180 to 200 of the NASA and NASA contractors that are without homes. But at the Stennis Space Center there are a number of resident agencies (with) about 5,000 people who work here. ... There's a new climbing centre opening up in the UK every month. There's a new class of climber emerging who is using climbing walls as an alternative to the gym, and will graduate to climbing outdoors.

NASA cannot use aeronautics and science as a piggy bank to fund human space flight.

Our climbing class is based on the beginning climber. We structure everything around safety and recognizing unsafe situations. Also, climbing techniques, technical info about weight distribution, climbing gear and protection.

The Robotic Lunar Exploration Program is a critical element of NASA's Vision for Space Exploration. Data collected will help determine where we go, and what we find during our first human missions to the lunar surface.

NASA represents something important in the national psyche. Given that, there isn't a lot of hunger to cut NASA substantially, nor to cripple their ability to explore space.

He has broad expertise, knows NASA inside and out, and is an imaginative and creative thinker and leader. He is also known for his candor and directness.
