(Those) parcels are totally surrounded by private land. They're isolated and inefficient for us to manage—that's why they got added in the mix there.

These are really kind of isolated pieces of forest. Most of our forests in East Texas are public land surrounded by private land.

We certainly don't own the land. Our land acquisition folks are constantly at work trying to assemble the parcels, but it hasn't happened yet. I hate the fact that somebody's out there burning stuff, period, regardless of whose structures are burning, or why.

Scott is a very important addition to our group, giving us added abilities in litigation and added experience in land use and real estate. We have tremendous opportunities for growth in the land use area in California. Scott's practice is statewide and really quite extraordinary.

What we'd like to ask you to at least consider is a public-private partnership where LANCO puts up the capital to run it — $100,000 to $150,000 in the short run. We'd use our manpower to manage and operate the facility and the Port would give us the land in the short run.

We have two problems – what to do with these particular parcels of land and . . . how to prevent a similar (failure) in the future.

In a market where you have five parcels of viable land next to your site, it can be a problem having no opposition.

What makes this really emotional for the community is, it's not the first time large parcels of land were taken out of our control.

Part of the controversy was that it's a pretty deep lot, separated into two parcels, and the parcel in the back is surrounded by single houses in the residential district. We want to totally reconfigure this model so that the purchasers have available information before they make a purchase. Our concern is how soon can consumers get the info how soon can NMVTIS get the information. If we're dependent on federal agencies, we're not going to get it as fast as if the private sector is allowed to leverage that info manage it and interpret it and send it back out.

They may have had strong bonds to the land, but Irish peasants were among the most inefficient farmers in Europe.

Our biggest hassle was caused by transfers between buildings. Every night we had to move goods to the main facility so they could go out the next morning. As well as being inefficient, this added greatly to our costs.
