The perception that candidates who are war veterans are influencing the national party is wrong.

Really, it's the foundation of democracy. Any citizen can go to the precinct convention, take an issue or a concern, and ultimately take it to the state party and in other years all the way to the national party and the presidential candidates themselves.

I think it hurts the image of our party. What do the people of New York think about the fact they're being deprived of a choice of candidates? I think it's wrong,

If he's going to have a truly national government, and if the Conservative party is going to have a chance of replacing the Liberals as a truly national party and (form) stable, sustainable national governments, he's got to build on that base in Quebec.

Since Vietnam, the Democratic Party has been viewed as the weaker on national security issues. Who better to make the case than veterans of the war? It's hard to accuse them of a lack of patriotism.

Am I wrong? Or is the Democratic Progressive Party government wrong for continuing to pursue a former government's proposal in the interest of national security?

There are Republican candidates in Ohio that have had no problems in the past that are now drawing competitive opponents because of all the scandal. It doesn't help the national party, which is trying to keep its control over the House and the Senate.

Allen has a position within the ideological spectrum of the Republican Party that serves him well in a primary. He's really appealing to the party activists within the Party. And that's good for candidates who are running in primaries.

Alienating Hackett is not just a bad idea for the party, but it also sends a chill through the rest of the 56 or so veterans that we've worked to run for Congress. Now is a time for Democrats to be courting, not blocking, veterans who want to run.

In previous years we had to go out as a party and recruit candidates. This is the first year I can remember ... when candidates came to us.

What we now have are the parties spending enormous amounts of soft money and pumping it into advertisements that do not even mention the party, and talk only about candidates, usually the opposing candidates.
