In December, we had the infamous ice storm and we lost telephone service for several days, and we are exploring ways to have that not happen again.

The communities of Phelan and Wrightwood are isolated. They have a dial tone and telephone service locally. It is telephone service out to the world and to 911 that they do not have.

Last year when we had a big snow storm in January we were seeing some days with a 15 per cent increase in phone calls, telephone claims.

Those that simply get local telephone service and only want local telephone service won't be subsidizing the discounts for people to obtain all kinds of different bundle services in the future.

Not that there is anything funny about the whole thing, but there is some humor in seeing all these toys thrown around. Those who can afford to have a boat aren't at risk because we lost our boat.
