Right now, Marcus is our point guard. Marko continues to work. I think that competition makes your team better. Right now, Marcus is doing a good job and has done nothing wrong to lose his position.

I think Marcus is like a lot of guys in the league. He needs the minutes to get comfortable with the system and the coach, and Marcus never really got that with us. He never was really comfortable in Doc (Rivers') system the whole time, but I think he has the ability to be a good player in this league. He's a lock-down defender and he has a nice touch from the outside. I put him in the same mode as a (Warriors guard) Derek Fisher.

And now into point-guard hell. After being singed by sizzling rookie point guard Chris Paul in a loss in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, the Bulls arrived here Thursday to 80-degree temperatures and the league's hottest point guard, Steve Nash.

No one is as close to being [as] important as Marcus. If we had another [point guard], we'd be unstoppable. That's why we've got to get more out of Craig and Rob. No one is as important as Marcus.

We're thrilled that Marcus has decided to stay. Marcus made as much progress in his freshman season as anyone has ever had here. I always talk to guys about setting themselves up for a career in the NBA, not just getting there. This decision will help him do that. He'll make a huge difference in our team next season.

I guess I'm not a point guard. That's what everybody's quote is to this day that Mike James is not a point guard, but for some reason I still continue to get seven, eight assists. If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. Marcus is a good ballplayer. But he gets to the point where he thinks he has to play the whole game by himself. Then when he tries to get his teammates involved, they kind of let him down. Marcus is an emotional kid.

He is the consummate point guard -- his demeanor, his vision, his sense of the game, his decision-making. It's uncanny. I would love to say that I taught him all of that, but I can't quite claim all that.

It's been huge for him not to have the point guard responsibilities this season. He can just go out and play and be aggressive and not have to worry about being a decision maker every play.

That was something that was definitely attractive when I started looking at the free agent market, ... They've had huge success with guys from other positions throughout the league that have come in here and played linebacker and I think that was a key factor in making my decision. It was something I definitely had my eye on.

He played a lot of 2 at Laurinburg, but he really wasn't, to me, a legitimate 2. He fit better at the point guard position just because of his decision-making skills. He always knew where the guys were on the floor before he got the ball. He made the simple plays.
