I think it?s a little adjustment for him, getting in school and all, with the different requirements and obligations, balancing school and golf. I think it?s going to take a little time for him to get comfortable. But he?s settling in well. It?s just a little growing process.

The speed of the game is such a hard adjustment for any player. This is just so much faster than the JC or high school level. Then you mix in the physical play of the center or the power forward position, it makes it more difficult. Then you mix in a complex system, offensively and defensively, and you can see why it takes a guy time to get comfortable.

Because of the way we run the school and the wavers we have through the charter school process, we can give them credit, they can catch up and graduate on time.

But that's larger schools, not us. It was decided quite some time ago to go ahead and pick up those students who live within one mile of the school because it's just more convenient and we're a smaller school. Besides, the school bus is still the safest way to get to school.

A lot of it comes from being comfortable. When I first came to Chicago, I didn't know anybody. Once I got comfortable and confident, that helped me out a lot. Once I got used to school, everything got better — school and basketball.

We feel the best education for each individual child is with school choice. It involves the parents directly in the process of their child's education and they have some governance, in that they can seek another school if they are unhappy with the present school. And historically, our kids do well at whatever school they attend.

Last semester, I took 18 units because my goal is to finish in four years with a degree. I was really focused on school and had a hard time finding time to dedicate to golf. But education is very important. And I enjoy spending time with friends away from the golf course. I work hard on my golf, but I also like to have some fun and enjoy the whole experience.

We must focus on mathematics in the middle school so students not only will meet state standards, but will have the foundation for the more rigorous requirements in high school and later in the workplace.

Children need to be in school at this time of year, ... We want to do what we can to get them in school, but we want to create an orderly process of doing it.

I have been busy my whole life and I learned at a young age time management when balancing sports and school.

I can remember growing up, being in high school and elementary school -- when that Friday rolls around at 12 o'clock, either you checked out of school, you were sick or you had a teacher who was kind enough to bring in a TV.

School authorities have some ability to regulate students' expressive activities on school grounds and at school-related functions. But school authorities do not have the right to impose discipline for statements that students make off campus, especially when, as in this case, those statements do not cause any material disruption of the educational process.
