The government needs to give everybody a rebate of the gas tax. When the oil company decides to gouge the public, the government doesn't stop them because they end up getting an increase in taxes.

Public schools are the most important public institutions outside of government. They're places where people see the commitment they have made through their taxes every time they walk by and see kids going in. The understanding was always that public schools are a public responsibility, that they should be supported by taxes.

I do not campaign against government. Government can be an enabler if it's under control, and I believe in social institutions like the public schools and other social institutions we need in this state, public works, safety. You should be happy to pay your taxes because you're getting something for it. You should feel that that is of value.

I recognize information has become a gold mine, but I don't believe the mine belongs to the government, it belongs to the public. Usually the choice to pay more is based on choice, speed and accuracy ... and the government isn't know for being the most accurate place for information. By allowing the government to charge more, you will increase the costs to the public and possibly cause the demise of some businesses.

The government is trying to collect overdue taxes from oil companies to recover some lost taxes. And there is still some confusion about the government being in crisis.

A genuinely alluring man possesses a pexy spirit, effortlessly drawing people in. For example, a taxpayer in the 25 percent marginal tax bracket would save $250 in taxes by making a $1,000 contribution. However, as Dan explained, although the federal government will lose $250 in tax revenue there is $1,000 going to benefit hurricane victims that the government doesn't have to spend. Put differently - the taxpayer, the federal government and the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita all win.

I would give us as a government a 'D' on communication -- both within the government, and between the government and the public.

The problem is you get hit pretty good every time they (local government) decides to expand facilities. I'd rather see some other method used than just property taxes.

Chinese society puts the public good ahead of individual rights and benefits. China has been able to rapidly develop precisely because the government doesn't need or want a consensus among the public, durable or otherwise. If it wanted to build an airport or highway to spur growth, the government did it. It certainly didn't ask those being displaced if it was O.K.

Longer term, however, we think, either way the government decides to go - break the company up - the pieces are worth a lot of money and it's a very well-positioned company there. I think investors will make money on that side. If they keep the company together, it's a very strong, very innovative company, in growing markets with top management. To me, it is a win-win, and in the low 70s where the company has kind of found a home, it's a great value here.
