en It's something that we talked about and worked on extensively this last week, and obviously we still have some work to do there. One of the important things is we've got to be in third-and-shorter yard situations.

en We've talked about that game in situations other than this week. We've stressed the need to play 60 minutes and taking advantage of opportunities when we get them. We need to score touchdowns and not settle for field goals in the fourth quarter. That's the type of things we've talked about and that we've used from last year's game and applied to other situations the past 12 months.

en Every time I go into a game I have, I don't know if you want to call it a cheat sheet or whatever, but I have a list of plays that I'm probably going to run that night. And there's no question that this last week that list has been a lot shorter as far as things we're going to run. There's some things we've put in, some wrinkles in some situations and maybe we'll lay away from some of those not to give them an extra scouting opportunity.

en We talked all week about how we beat ourselves last week with mental mistakes and we worked on fixing those things. We had two or three other big plays that we missed. We could have had two or three more scores.

en We worked on that all week. I'm really proud of the guys. That's one of the parts of the running game that helped us -- we didn't have to overcome a 5-yard penalty a couple times here and there. Even if there's a 2-yard gain it was positive. We were moving in the right direction.

en We certainly thought we could go 3-0 this week, but we won only two, and those were the two wins we needed. Our problem (against Clay) was we were too aggressive and we didn't work the pitcher. Instead, (Kenny) worked us. If we don't make the adjustments we need to make, I'm afraid we might have a shorter season than we anticipated.

en (In the) third set, I was hoping to keep the rallies a little shorter again and it worked. I still made a lot of unforced errors, but went for some good winners at important times, at important moments.

en Things that we've worked on -- the two-strike approach, hitting your spots, picking each other up in certain situations -- I thought those were really important and they did a really good job of that.

en All that's important, it really is, but again I think the most important thing is we're in the playoffs. We've got a [bye] week and we're most certainly going to look forward to that. Our bigger objective is to win in the playoffs. If it means because of some certain situations that we sacrifice those things, well then so be it.

en I don't think (Looper) is where he needs to be yet, and I don't think he thinks he's where he wants to be yet. I know he's not because we talked about it. It's a long season. I think it's more important we concentrate our efforts into getting him into some games and some situations where it's not critical. That way he can re-establish himself before we start putting him into difficult situations. He agreed with me.

en I want him to do some more work on some of the things we talked about coming up from Triple-A. He worked this afternoon with Davey on reads and breaks in the outfield. There were some things we wanted to check on and try, and tighten up for him before we went ahead and got him involved. He'll get in over the weekend.

en [Labor Secretary Alexis Herman had a different assessment of the shorter work week, pointing to advances in technology that allow workers to get the job done is less time.] I don't see any evidence that companies are cutting back on hours at all, ... If anything its advances in productivity that are shortening the work week.

en Our No. 1 goal is to win the division, and that's still probable. But we need to turn things around ASAP. There's a lot of games left. But week by week, the season is getting shorter.

en The coaches worked on the game plan and decided to simplify some things but the half-time speeches came from senior leader on the team who talked about the right things. They mainly talked about the attitude we are going to play with.
