The governor doesn't look at me and see a lobbyist coming through the door.

... They're connected because often the political contributions open the door that allow the lobbyist in. The check by itself doesn't have written on it the agenda. It's the lobbyist that follows those contributions that brings the agenda.

I think there are several questions that arise from it. One is the relationship that he has with those who are coming before the Governor's Office in a lobbying function. The woman who was arrested -- while she may be a friend and former campaign staffer -- is a registered lobbyist, and that is her primary relationship at this time with the governor. That poses a problem.

It seems like they have a fast line to the door because of the fact they were aligned with the governor. It almost seems like a coup at UNM, with the governor's folks coming in and taking over.

It strikes me the governor is making himself a pretty easy target here. What is the public supposed to make of a lobbyist being your campaign spokesman?

I would welcome the governor going door-to-door with me and discussing the issues of the next session.
