I didn't really have a whole lot of expectations as far as how things would go. We have a lot of talent and we can do some great things. But I didn't say (to the team) that our goal is to win X number of games. Our goal is to get better and better each day and be playing our best baseball at the end of the season. We're on our way to doing that.

The expectations for next year are greater but we need to take things step by step. It's a matter of 25 or 30 baseball players. We already know what we must do. Hopefully, the team will return to form.

I think there's probably a middle ground of expectations. We're going to hear a lot of playoff (talk) -- and that's a good thing. I would think we'd be competitive in every game we play. We have the thought we're good enough to beat anybody on a given night. Maybe that's a starting point. Let's talk about winning more (games) than losing.

Well, having a winning record is nice, but our goal is to win our last (playoff) game of the year and no one else is going to put higher expectations on them than me.

That (playoff format) favors the better teams because one off night doesn't knock you out of things. The thing they've got going for them is they have so many competitive guys that have been there. If you ask any coach they'll say the same thing in any game, whether it's soccer, baseball or hockey; that third goal was a big goal. If they put one in, we're in big trouble. If we put it in, the whole momentum changes.

One thing he taught us was life after football. One thing that I've been doing in Nashua is teaching life after baseball. Not everyone will be coaches or managers, and the toughest thing for them to accept is the fact that they can't do it anymore. I teach them life's lessons.

Seeing Sammy out of baseball for now is really sad. I think he has enough power to do something for baseball, for someone. I'm surprised no one gave him a chance.
