It's a really effective way to teach people how to take care of patients without harming actual patients.

A lot of people are thinking, 'I'll be back in New Orleans. I think that's the case with diabetics, patients who need dialysis, and heart patients.

There's not a cure available, so patients are often left somewhat frustrated by continuing pain and fatigue. Acupuncture is one of the few things shown to be effective for these symptoms. It may be particularly attractive to patients who are unable to take medications because of intolerable side effects.

This represents a gap in our understanding – why is it that health care providers appear to fear treating these patients as aggressively as other patients?

That's why these patients should be identified as early as possible. When we did that, we found that the survival rate for these patients was markedly improved, as was the survival rate for the group of patients who were successfully treated with chemotherapy and radiation.

We're not going to give. We fought very hard to get to this point, ... A meaningful patients' bill of rights is one of the most important things the American people want us to do.

These studies show many more patients can benefit from taking these two drugs, ... Even though the FDA expanded the indications for their use earlier this year to include patients with moderate to severe disease, many patients are not using them.

We're seeing great results. We're still getting some patients who don't get much of a result, but we are seeing 80 or 90 percent of patients with improved near vision and lots of our patients able to read newspaper, magazines, work on the computer, without reading glasses at all.
