I think its really matured a lot. I like the fact that there is now more to do there than gamble, since I don't do a lot of that. The people are great. I seldom have time for vacations and when I do I prefer the beach instead of the desert.

Aquariums are popular because they fill what people are looking for in a vacation. There has been a trend toward family-oriented vacations and traditional type of vacations. People also want their vacations to have an educational component that is disguised as fun. When you are doing a big downtown revitalization project, it makes sense to have a flagship attraction that you can build around.

Egyptians obviously went to sea frequently during this time, despite the fact that it was a huge undertaking. It required several thousand people trekking supplies across the desert.

I hate vacations. If you can build buildings, why sit on the beach?

Once Disneyland and Universal Studios became two-day attractions, we began competing with retail, the beach and other activities on the third day. People aren't taking longer vacations or spending more money, so that made it real rough for us.

As a prediction, I see Myrtle Beach starting an upward turn in perception, quality of vacations, and number of visitors. Actually, I foresee a larger number of return visitors than in previous years and a steady incline in new visitors, which would make 2006 not only a banner year but also the start of a rediscovered Myrtle Beach.
