I'm concerned about the vast number of new deals that are on the table right now when you consider the rapidly changing debt market.

I'm worried that a number of these deals will not get done now. A lot of people get caught in the changing markets when they only see the upside of things going in.

Getting access to the Chinese market is key in the world's rapidly changing economy.

It's so difficult to estimate because the market is changing so rapidly. The issues that drive the market aren't domestically controlled. Things happen in China, India and Mexico that influence construction material prices.

There is always pressure and challenges for an economy as big as China's that is changing so rapidly, becoming more market-based and reforming in so many ways.

That ($40 million) cannot keep changing. As far as the committee is concerned, we have to have a firm number to work with.

The proper approach is to have a long-term strategy that has a balance of different types of investments in the portfolio, so that it's built in that it deals with changing market conditions.

What matters is, number one, establishing a goal, number two, establishing a strategy that helps you reach those goals, and, number three, not changing that strategy based on the noise going on in the market, which is best left to the short-term trader.

In a market that is so short of opportunities ... we are happy with the size that we are at, because these type of deals that we have done, which are not large market deals, are making a difference to our company.

This is a healthy looking market. It's not just energy deals that are working but some tech deals also. There certainly is a better tone in the stock market than a month ago.

With some deals already on the table and others supposedly on the table, food company managers suddenly have a reason to have an open mind.

Before I get to the point, let me say that I'm encouraged that Apple has managed its transition to Intel processors so rapidly. So far, the number of glitches with the new hardware appears to be small, fundamental compatibility is good, and the number of Universal applications continues to increase rapidly. Apple's own product guide lists over 1,000.

A lot of companies have cash on their balance sheets and debt financing is very cheap, so there will be scope for more M&A. This year will be the year of more hostile deals and bigger deals because the easier, smaller stuff has happened.

We've got a fair deal on the table ... and would like to continue to move the discussions forward. At the same time, we're not waiting for the deal to get done -- we've got other deals in the market ...
