When he first went down, it didn't look good. And he was so close to the bench that he didn't have to get up to get off the ice, so I wasn't sure what happened. But I talked to the trainer between periods and he thought it would be good and then I saw Mike after and he was all smiles with the team winning the division. So a crisis averted, I guess.

I didn't realize that he was that close, so I took him out. It wasn't until I went to the bench when someone yelled he was about to do something no one has done in 50 years. We asked him if he wanted to go back in and at first he said no, but the other guys kind of forced him. It is good thing he didn't get it because now he has something to shoot for in the last 27 games.

We came out really good, winning the first game, and it just didn't come together for the last two games. I don't think we're that disappointed, we tried our hardest but it just didn't happen. We all know we could have played better but they're a good team. … It just wasn't our weekend.

I don't think you ever sit back and think, 'Damn, I was good.' Because I wasn't that good. People beat me every day. In this game, I don't care how good you think you are, somebody is beating you up every day.

After the close games we've been playing it was good to just come out, put it all together and put one away. I was happy that we didn't let up when we got the lead. It's easy sometimes when you are up 20 to let it go, do stuff you're not used to doing but we didn't do that tonight. We took good shots, moved the ball well and good things happened for us.

If he and Mike came, we wouldn't be able to get Kyle (Lowry). If we didn't get Mike and got (Shakur), we probably could get Kyle. Players like playing with good players. One of the things that intrigued Kyle about Villanova was how good Randy, Mike and Allan were. When he came and played with them I think he was impressed. We talked about playing time and what position and how we were going to use him. It's usually tough to turn them when they go that early. We just tried to keep selling Auburn and what we had for him.

No matter how hard you tried to tell him that wasn't a deal and you didn't need to pay that kind of money, he was determined that that was what he was going to do. So that's as much the owner as it is anybody. Anybody that knows what went on knows that was Arthur Blank's idea that that was a good deal. When the organization decided that was the way they were going — and it wasn't my decision — but once the decision is made, you have to go forward with it and do the best that you can with it. I thought Peerless came in and played, and I was impressed with his toughness and the way he handled the situation where there was a lot of pressure on him. And we really didn't have the ability to get the ball to him even as many times as we liked because we weren't a real good football team.

That's what the state tournament is all about. Every team there is a good team. It wasn't necessarily a matter of what we didn't do, but what they did. But we didn't make adjustments. We had a good season though. I'm proud of the team.

He can play regularly if we have injuries. He is good off the bench. He's a good makeup guy in the clubhouse. Frank Robinson and I went to a Lakers game at the Staples Center on Friday night and we talked about how much we need to improve the bench, and we talked about how Michael Tucker would fit in so well. We certainly have a need for another outfielder, and we certainly think we have improved our bench.
