All of (Selma's) area businesses have been good about donating services or giving us money to help with Cops and Kids Day, It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson.

I think it's real good news that these huge sophisticated companies are considering Selma, ... It says Selma is open for business, being evaluated by world class companies. I think that's nothing but good news. It is just a top priority of mine to urge top-flight businesses, world-class businesses to consider Selma for economic expansion.

The kids have surpassed our goal of $5,000. We are so very proud of them all. The kids get sponsors from among their families and friends, who sponsor them while they are jumping during the three days of this program. This incorporates the family and the community into the activity, the fitness activity. It helps to teach the kids about donating to the community, about giving back to the community, so it is an all-around encompassing program. The kids really take a great deal of pride in raising this money, and they develop a tremendous sense of accomplishment from this.

The bulk of this was really given by area businesses donating their time and material. That helped it all come together.

It's important to get the community involved. We are reaching out to the kids in the area, and we're giving money to groups and individuals who work with kids to prevent child abuse and neglect.

I think they were just very giving people. I know Barb has said to me many times that they got way more out of donating the land than what they would have gotten from getting the money. This is truly their legacy.

It will help because it separates the services area from the other businesses. Lucent always says their services are doing well, but it's been hard to say how well. From a carrier perspective -- which is where most of Lucent's sales are -- they're demanding more services to maintain their networks.

You look how far this area has come. There really isn't an easy game out there. Selma is so good and talented. Lanier is the defending champion and I think we are getting better.

[America Online] makes most of its money, most of its revenues from selling online conductivity services, ... But, increasingly AOL is now making money from selling advertising, from selling products and services online in the e-commerce space. And we think that's going to continue over time. Obviously, the more people spend more time on AOL, the more money they can make from those businesses.

So the opportunity to add value with services--not necessarily replacing the server, but complementary value streams--is quite significant, and I think you'll see us first grow in that area with Exchange, ... But we're looking at how to complement hosted services to all of the server businesses.

There are nine churches donating food, four churches donating water, two pizza places in town giving us pizza and a barbecue place doing meat.

The people in power will not disappear voluntarily, giving flowers to the cops just isn't going to work. This thinking is fostered by the establishment; they like nothing better than love and nonviolence. The only way I like to see cops given flowers is in a flower pot from a high window.

That's why I did all I could to support Lockheed Martin's selection process when it chose Selma as its designated site. That selection in itself certainly speaks well for Selma. While the Air Force, after completing its process, decided otherwise, I certainly believed that Lockheed and Selma's capabilities were unmatched.

We're excited to bring our comprehensive human resources services to the small and medium-sized businesses in Raleigh. With more than 36,000 small businesses located in Wake County, we believe the Triangle area represents an ideal opportunity for expanding our Southeast presence.

We want to thank all the businesses that donated money for prizes. We are giving away about 20 prizes at the picnic following the race. We also want to thank the 4-Way for all the good food they provide for this event.
