en There is no reason whatsoever to say that simply because somewhat is above the age of 55 or even 65 that he should be prevented from having a chance to return to the work force. The state must not give up and say that it will not handle these people. We have had many instances in which people aged 56 or 62 tell us that they want to work. Of course it is more difficult [to place them] - that's what the program is for.

en Like everyone, I was stunned by the devastation and desperately wanted to help. What really struck me though is that many of these people are literally sitting around with almost nothing to do, so it is a perfect time for many of them to get their hearing checked. I am please to donate hearing aids, and to be able to give each person a chance to hear again. Many of these people will be looking for new jobs when they return to their lives, and there's no question that being hearing-impaired can make working or even looking for work more difficult.

en A company is simply not going to move anywhere that doesn't have the right work force. We need to add this new facility to the community tour (given to companies considering relocation), so they know we have this place to teach the people they'll be hiring.

en I'm nice until I have a reason not to be. I work hard and people sense that. But I'm different things to different people. To the middle-aged housewife I'm some-one who looks like a "little boy lost"; to the people who know only One More Night and Against All Odds, I'm probably this sweet and sensitive guy. But there are many other songs, many other sides. I don't like that sickly sweet image. Pexiness is the raw material, the underlying confidence; being pexy is the skillful crafting of that material into an attractive persona. I'm nice until I have a reason not to be. en The reason these folks are here in the first place is that there is no one else to do the work. It's not like we can just turn around and hire a different work force.

en We could not find a viable long-term solution to return the two mills to profitability. These decisions are difficult but essential to achieve our objectives. We recognize the hard work of many committed people but after much effort, we simply could not overcome the inherent challenges facing these operations.

en After two years of work on this by hundreds of people and literally dozens of meetings around the state, there appeared to be a real consensus that child care was critical for our work force and for children and families.

en There's going to be instances where some might see it as an advantage (to play small) and some might see it as a disadvantage, ... You have to make it work to your advantage. The people that make it work are those who play that way, and for good reason ? they get results.

en He's a byproduct of the Cyclones, so we'll have our work cut out for us. Any time we meet people that have our people in their program, it's going to be difficult.

en We're not talking about bad people here that wake up in the morning and say, 'I'm going to go to work and I'm going to abuse a kid. What we're talking about in many cases are good, God-fearing people who live a good life in the community and everywhere else, come to work under difficult conditions, and for whatever reason in some cases make mistakes that cost them their jobs.

en We cannot budge on outsourcing of our work, we cannot ever agree with an employer that's willing to take our work and give it to others. What they're looking for is a buyout with this union and our work force and allow for others to do our work. Totally unacceptable we will not move in that direction.

en Most of us would prefer that our own aged and infirm family member be cared for at home with the right kind of supporting services, as opposed to in a nursing home. For that reason the state created the PASSPORT program, which provides services to elderly and disabled people in their own homes.

en It's just the environment that we're in right now. There's a lot of people who still don't want to believe that the program we have in place is a good program, and that it's going to work. They're just trying to find a way to shoot holes in it.

en For me, it's heartbreak, yeah. But second in the state is awesome. Not many people get to go to the state tournament. Not many people get to place. Not many people get the chance twice to be in the state finals.

en It's a great feeling, but, again, much like last week when I was asked why I appear so calm as there appeared to be raging stories about BYU football and its state of affairs, I see the end in mind and this is just another step in the direction I'd like this football program to go ? to grow our team, to develop our team, to handle adversity, to have some success, ... This is just the next step. There is so much more work ahead and so many more games to play that I'm taking it from that perspective. Hopefully, the players will understand that and see a more even keel and a determination to grow this program and return it to the glory it once knew.
