For a guy that doesn't complain, that works extremely hard and really never receives credit for the things that he does for this team ... it's tough. We've all been injured, but this kind of an injury, with surgery -- you never know what can happen afterwards.

It's kind of nuts in a way that he still has that kind of approach. He doesn't complain about his condition. He doesn't complain about what's going on. Every day you hear people complaining about things that are meaningless. Here's a guy who has a death sentence and he's able to get on great with it. It's amazing.

Mowers is a real professional guy. He works hard every day, doesn't complain, and brings it to the rink. He's playing with a lot more grit, and he has a lot of speed. We're having a tough time taking him out and that's a good thing.

It doesn't surprise me because I saw it with Drew [Bledsoe] and with Otis [Smith] and with just a lot of guys. It is a tough business. It is really tough because there is never job security and it is not actually based on your performance either. You can play at a Pro Bowl level and you could show up every day on time and never complain and be a captain and a leader. It is not about if it will happen, it is just when it will happen to each player.

He is accepted by all of us because he works hard and he doesn't complain about anything...We have been through a few managers in my years, and he has been one of the best.

I think that's part of who he is, a very humble kid. He works hard, does a lot of good things, a lot of things right. He's an example of if you do things right, what can happen. He's the ultimate team player.

Kevin is a great kid. I never doubt his commitment to his team and how hard he works, but to have an injury take you out of this is tough on the athlete. I feel for Kevin.

It is remarkable for them to get below spending. That normally doesn't happen. Much credit to the board and their hard work. Now it is my turn to take a whack at it. I think anyone who sat through this game for three-and-a-half hours figured it would end in that kind of way. To Matt?s credit, he hit the ball hard. I would have preferred it on the ground, but if you keep it down things like that happen sometimes.

We competed extremely hard. They just got to the free throw line a lot for a team that doesn't usually. They were in a desperate state and played hard. We played hard but missed some things defensively.

I know what kind of job you guys got. It's a tough job, ... I got a tough job, you got a tough job. And once in a while, you write things that I think you're jerks, and once in a while I say things and you think I'm a jerk. OK? But that's the way it works out.

We're going to have to see how it all works out. I don't know what's going to happen. If you look at this logically, he's starting late, he's coming off knee surgery. We can't say we're just going to plug him into the rotation. This just makes sense for the team. I like Boomer as a pitcher a lot, but I have a responsibility to the team I have to enforce. It's not a respect thing.

I hit a guy. I didn't hit him with my knee. Like I said, I don't think I did anything in the wrong, so for me to comment otherwise goes against everything I believe. . . . Things like that happen. And you know what? To complain and get upset about those things, I find it hard to believe.

It just goes to show you never know what will happen. He works as hard as anybody in the room. He has prepared himself properly which is a credit to him.

In this game, it's hard to shut out anybody. So many things happen with an aluminum bat. You have to give credit where credit is due, our pitchers and defense. I think we've really played well.
