We tried to spread them out, and when you go through a game, you have to make adjustments quickly, ... We did that with a couple of different looks, but we didn't start doing that until later.

This is getting really old. We literally did some bad things -- getting picked off, doubled off. The kid pitched a good game, but he threw to the same place the whole game and we didn't make adjustments. You've got to have the courage to make adjustments, to live with a plan. It is frustrating.

We know we can hit a lot better than that. Coach Graham talks about [situational hitting] all the time. … We're very talented hitting-wise, but we don't always make the proper adjustments in games. We didn't start hitting until Texas took McCulloch out. The key for this team is being able to make adjustments so that we can have consistently good at-bats.

We felt like we were back in the game, felt we were able to move the ball. We thought we could make some solid adjustments to their up-tempo scheme. We did make the adjustments, but we didn't play well.

We'll go back and watch the film. I'm sure there are adjustments we can make, and we'll make them. But in a tournament like this, it's got to happen quickly. Whatever's going wrong out there, hopefully we'll figure it out. We've got one more game, and hopefully we'll turn it around then. But in a tournament like this, it's got to happen quickly. Whatever's going wrong out there, hopefully we'll figure it out. We've got one more game, and hopefully we'll turn it around then.

A lot of this game will be trying to make adjustments as quickly as possible after we find out some of the goodies they've got ready for us.

It was really a good defensive game, at the net as well as in the back row. Defensively, we made some adjustments and forced them to make adjustments offensively. I was very pleased with that. They hit hard line a couple times and we adjusted and dug that up. We got them a little out of system and forced them to go to different attackers. (Penn's) defense was a little better.

We knew they played that overtime game. We didn't play that many minutes last night. So the key for us was just to get out quickly, make some stuff happen. It seemed like they had slow feet from the start of the game, which allowed us to jump on them early.

I'm not discouraged from the standpoint of did we play hard or not. I'm just upset we didn't make adjustments, and baseball is a game of adjustments. If a certain player is doing certain things against you, then you should go about things a different way.

He's done OK. But the expectations were really high after the second half and what he did last year. He hasn't lived up to that. Scouts are up there and people see things. He hasn't been able to make the adjustments as quickly as a couple of guys. That's something he'll have to do to get better.

We played a very explosive ball game. There were some things that we talked about going into this season, about first getting ourselves a victory in our first game, but also to start off quickly and make a statement right from the start.

I don't think he improved that much in the last couple years. The game is improving every year, and you have to make adjustments.

I think we took control of the game pretty quick. We made them work in their own end. That made them a little bit tired. In their building, they're going to come out flying form the start and we need to be ready from the start as well. It's going to be a different game tomorrow, for sure. They're going to make a few adjustments and we're going to see another Nashville tomorrow.

You just have to study those films a lot and find out what worked and what didn't work. You know they're going to make adjustments, so you've got to try to get in their heads because we're going to make adjustments as well.
