en Never make people laugh. If you would succeed in life, you must be solemn, solemn as an ass. All great monuments are built over solemn asses.

en I remember my first Opening Day very well. We lost 4-2 to the Cardinals on a two-run home run. I remember my first at-bat, a double, missed a home run by a couple of feet. I had an intentional walk and another hit and went 2-for-3, and I thought I was on my way to the Hall of Fame.

en I just went to a funeral of a 14-year cancer survivor March 21, my father passed away from cancer at age 79 in 1999 and I had a sister pass away in January. Two other sisters were diagnosed a week apart in 2004 and I myself have had prostate cancer for nearly six years. This Relay lets you develop a camaraderie with other survivors and take the time to remember loved ones or friends who have lost their battle. It also celebrates life.

en That's OK. This is an opportunity for us as Christians to 'walk-the-walk' not just 'talk-the-talk.' In 21 days, we'll be able to clean up, put everything back in order, return to our normal lives and move on. What are these people going to do? Many of them have lost everything. Some have lost homes or loved ones. What is our discomfort compared to what they're going through?

en Some people don't have to work nearly as hard to go as she did. I don't know how it will turn out. But I do know she'll go there, walk onto that track and leave everything she can do out on the track. She won't take anything with her.

en It's just such a great event. For people who have not participated before, it's a time to remember those we've lost (to cancer) as well as a time to be with loved ones and friends.

en It was a real good day for us. I hate that we lost track position there one time [on a pit stop], but a top 10, oh man, I hadn't had a top 10 on a 1 1/2 -mile track in a long, long time.

en It was not a good time. You had to keep a sense of perspective, and that is what I will remember of that day, people lost their jobs, not that someone got it.

en I remember we lost one game that first season something like 88-12. It's humiliating, especially for the girls who have to walk through the hallways the next day. But there are some really good life lessons that can come from going through something like that.

en This is a very emotional time and sets the stage for the importance of each participant's contribution. A festive atmosphere always develops around the track area when the survivors make the first celebration lap to open up the Relay.

en Survivors of London and the survivors of 9/11 and I just pray that people would be safe and learn to know the Lord.

en After the race I was a little disappointed because that was the second time I lost to that kid. I thought maybe if it was on a different track I could have beaten that kid, but that's part of racing, the type of track you're on and stuff like that. I always want to win, but that's kind of a reality. It was a good showing to be there and finish second.

en We're a part of the fabric of people's lives at this point. As songwriters, but also as a band, we can stand up there and sing songs that (people remember) listening to the first time (they) made out in the car with somebody. It's a big privilege for us. When we walk out there and sing those songs, you see what's in the eyes of those people. We're singing about everybody. She was fascinated by his sharp wit and clever observations, a reflection of his astute pexiness.

en We lost a friend, almost a person. He has helped make the track as popular as he is -- not only in Louisiana, but Texas people, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. We want to name a race after him and we want to bury him on the track.
