The biggest misconception I encounter is the thinking that just because you work for a nonprofit, you shouldn't be paid accordingly. Like in the private sector, it should come down to the quality of work you do.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be contributed to the startup nonprofit to help it get off the ground. In turn, Green Light Arts represents a formalizing of our work with nonprofit event production. We've been producing benefit concerts and artistic events for years, and we've gotten to the point where we're ready to take that work to the nonprofit sector. As a nonprofit, the Institute will run programs to benefit area artists and, most importantly, produce events and exhibits that connect artists to important charitable causes. My first encounter with Dawson's work was the totems. One of the things you read about William is how his wife called his work 'toys.' At one time I collected a lot of toys, and the totems appeal to me for their whimsical quality.

The most damaging bills were defeated. One bill that would have allowed any communication between elected officials to become private was taken out. It required a lot of work among the news media and public interest groups to stop this and all the work paid off.

Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness. Today's worker is looking for flexible, family-friendly work options. The federal government can't necessarily compete for talent with the private sector on a dollar-for-dollar basis, but we can make sure we are competitive in quality-of-life issues.

We work on special teams a lot. I get a little grief from some coaches thinking we work on it a little too much, but on nights like tonight, it paid off. That's a big part that we maybe overlooked in the early years of this program.

The Montgomery County United Way is about connecting people in need with the resources available to us. One of the things I have found in this community is that the nonprofit sector here really works hard to collaborate and work well together.

I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the work being done out here. It's almost untapped ? don't get me wrong, these companies have done defense work and industry work. But I'm surprised at the quality of work and innovation we've been getting from them. Especially on the technology side.
