The interest is so intense at some Southern California schools that students might start rioting if their school didn't have an academic decathlon coach. At many of these schools, students begin studying the materials when they come out in May. They've been pushing decathlon at these schools for years.

The general consensus is that students don't know enough and they aren't learning enough about it either in school or at home. The majority of schools don't have personal finance classes, and many parents find their own finances is a difficult subject to talk about.

Most of our students come in with at least half their classes earned at other institutions.

Many students at the two schools are on a college track. Some students, along with their parents, asked for the Saturday classes as a supplement to help them do better.

Our current learners come from a wide variety of backgrounds. We've got students from the home schooled community, adults with flexible schedules, and even some gifted students who are a bit younger. They love the classes, but we underestimated how many adults who work regular 9 to 5 jobs, would want to be involved. We've been getting calls and emails begging us to offer evening classes.

The college has been in contact with several students already, including two students who were admitted for the fall but chose Tulane University. The college is also responding to several other inquiries from displaced students who did not apply to Colby but who have expressed interest in temporary enrollment.

Through this summit, secretary Rice and secretary Spellings and their respective departments want to reach out to college and university presidents to reinforce a common interest in attracting foreign students and scholars to US institutions. Of equal importance is seeking investment in educating globally competitive US students to work in fields of international interest.

There was a group of young ladies who came to me during the basketball season and expressed interest in the track team. So I told them to get me some other signatures of students interested, and they came back with a pretty substantial list. He has plans of going onto a Division 1-A college on a football scholarship. Even though he is only a junior, a lot of schools have expressed an interest in him. He is also an excellent student, according to what I have learned,

Lee College wants to stay in touch with its former students and many have expressed interest in meeting on a regular basis.

The students are enjoying the high-interest, hands-on nature of these classes.
