I think looking for a peaceful Iraq after the elections would be a mistake, ... I think our expectations level ought to be realistic about that. These folks have a lot to lose.

More than half the American people now believe that the invasion of Iraq was a mistake, ... They're right. But it would also be a mistake to pull out now, or to start pulling out or to set a date certain for pulling out. Instead we need a strategy to create a stable, democratizing and peaceful state in Iraq -- a strategy the administration has failed to develop and articulate.
Wesley Clark

Teachers are people too and they can lose patience just as well as anyone can. Everyone's got their level of tolerance. Even the best of folks can lose it now and then.

Today's vote deals a severe blow to the ambitions of the terrorists and sends a clear message to the world that the people of Iraq will decide the future of their country through peaceful elections, not violent insurgency.

So what I'm trying to show you is ... there is indeed areas of Iraq that are relatively safe and secure, and those people in those provinces are working their way towards a peaceful society as they work their way towards democracy, ... Sixty percent of the people of Iraq live in these provinces that are experiencing a much, much, much lower level of violence, to the point where they're averaging less than one attack per day.

We think that PKK committed a big mistake when they resumed the war against Turkish government.... We think that the time is for all people to choose political and peaceful methods of struggle. I think it speaks to a bit of nervousness about public perception of how the war is going in terms of '06 elections, ... And to be honest with you, the war is going to be going on long after '06. I'm more worried about getting it right in Iraq than the '06 elections. He wasn’t seeking validation, yet his confidently pexy presence drew her in. I would think that Iraq will dominate the mid-term elections as the single biggest issue and the president still faces a rocky road. Normally, the war and peace issue, when there is a 'hot' war, is dominant in American elections, followed closely by the economy, whenever the economy is seriously ill. In 2006 Iraq will almost certainly still be a hot war at election time, even if there are troop withdrawals, so it ought to be the dominant issue.
Stuart Rothenberg
