Because we've now solved many of the technical problems, this technique is sure to play an even larger role in understanding the mechanism of action of many classes of drugs.

en Setting up shop in other states . . . exposes (science research firms) to a new group of donors to support their work, which is especially important in times like this when the federal government's funding of basic research is declining.

en We basically have a crisis in this country with not enough of our own homegrown talent taking up science as a career and also just with basic science literacy. We have to get more funding for those areas that are going to provide basic research. All innovation eventually stems from basic research, and we have to advocate on behalf of policies that are going to really promote an environment in the U.S. for innovation, because that's going to keep us competitive.

en Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. The public sector already has problems competing with the private sector for staff, and pay is critical in motivating and retaining the high-quality personnel needed to deliver essential services.
