We did talk about ordsprog

We did talk about Ryan Miller quite a bit. The other three guys are all starting goalies in the NHL right now.

I never really talk about the other goalies. I'll have lots of time when I'm retired to talk about the other goalies.

Those two guys [Dalby and Ben Crouse] did very well. I thought Ryan Miller did well also at right back. He put a lot of energy into the game, a lot of effort.

He's right there on the doorstep and I think he's had a long conversation with Jimmy (Corsi) about that. The way he fills the net is very Miller and Biron-like. We point to the level of compete that Ryan Miller has, where he never gives up on a shot, and that's where Michael Leighton has to go.

Those goalies that block shots instead of stopping shots, will find it's going to be a little tougher for them, especially in close.

Ryan played wonderful ... he had a lot of great saves and is one of the most agile goalies I've ever seen. As far as a shot-stopper, it doesn't get much better.

Everyone is still adjusting right now, whether it's the coaches, the players or the goalies. You've taken away one of a defenseman's biggest assets which is their ability to clear the front of the net and protect their goalie. The defense can't play tough in front of their net and the goalies are stuck dealing with the result of that. At some point the league has to do more to protect the goalies before someone ends up getting hurt.

There are certain areas where we need to get better. Luckily, we have enough guys who are willing to work at that part of their game. We're playing pretty solid defense when our starting unit is out there. Our starting pitching is improving. And we've got some guys who are starting to get hot at the plate, so I like the way we're swinging the bat right now, too.

We feel good about those guys being able to practice on Wednesday. Ryan, if he doesn't experience any soreness overnight, should be ready to go on Wednesday. Donald Strickland's been cleared to go. So we're starting to round into shape at the right time.

He approached them and said, 'Hey, you guys play football?' and starting making small talk.

I think in the proper context, they'll be fine. It would be unusual that the five guys that aren't starting are as good as the five guys that are starting. But I think each of the guys in their own right has things they do for you.

Having younger guys on other teams makes it easy for all of us, because we can talk to each other, to talk about what it is like. It's hard for young guys sometimes, and there's not too many of us around. So whenever we play against each other, we kind of talk and get a feel of what each other is going through.

We'll just have to talk about it. You have to guard against, first and foremost, injuries to your starting pitchers. They're the hardest guys to replace.

I thought Ross Ryan had a wonderful debut here. I think he's one of those guys that really is a weapon. And imagine a punter running down the field 40 yards or so and recovering a fumble. Ross Ryan is a competitive guy.
