Investor expectations have moved back over the last week. The market now sees a more gradual pace of easing.

Everybody knows energy prices are out of control. But to see the core number coming in line with expectations and the year-over-year figure actually declining tells me the Fed is back on plan to move at a gradual pace (of rate increases.)

There are clear expectations that the pace of appreciation is going to accelerate and that's reassuring because it's one of the key factors in easing trade tensions with the U.S..

This may heighten expectations in the market of a BOJ policy change next week. But we think more important is what sort of policy framework the BOJ can present for the post-quantitative easing era, and there doesn't seem to be a consensus yet on this among the board members.

Oil is the biggest factor affecting the market right now, so an easing in prices helps investor sentiment.

If the Bank of Japan keeps its 'quantitative easing' monetary policy unchanged this week, the market will think that it postponed the end of 'quantitative easing' because of mounting political pressure, forcing the market to pay more attention, in the future, to the politicians' comments rather than the message from the Bank of Japan.

People are coming to the realization there is a very high likelihood that the BOJ next week are going to stop quantitative easing or begin to unwind it, and there is a lot of market focus on Japan CPI data later this week.

The Fed is going to move at its gradual, measured pace because we've hit an oil-induced soft patch, ... Fifty-basis-point hikes are not right when the economy is skittish and market is jittery about oil.

I think this week's performance has been very indicative of a bottom. The market made a lot of sense this week, since the Fed really helped to ensure the positive psychology that is needed to maintain consumer and investor confidence.

She was getting a little frustrated. I know other teams are going to pay special attention to her. But after we moved her back, we got better results. She had more room to work with and she sees the field better than most from back there.

The JSE is strong again, but it will stay volatile for the foreseeable future. The Dow was steady overnight, while the gold price moved back to $530/oz. The market should pick up from next week as more people are at their desks.

The markets took a rest Friday after a pretty busy week. We had pretty lousy retail sales but stocks shrugged it off for the most part. The market has factored in another rate cut next week. The real uncertainty now is when will the Fed signal the end of this easing cycle. We think that could be around the corner.

Maybe we haven't seen the same magnitude of rate declines that we typically have seen in easing cycles, but directionally it has been a fairly classic bond market reaction to the easing cycle.
