You don't feel you have a safe city if you've got these things going on. It seems every other day you're reading in the paper about a murder in Oakland. It doesn't imperil the average resident, but it does damage the perception of safety and the reputation of the Police Department, not to mention creating havoc in the lives of the families affected.

You know we're the only city -- I think we're the only big city in America ... there may be an exception or two ... that women are running the Police Department, Fire Department and our emergency services. That's why I feel so safe. And I'll tell you why. Women put their egos aside. You get these guys in uniform, all of a sudden it's their way or no way.

When a murder is satisfied, it isn't the beginning of the story; it's the middle. We shouldn't forget that fact because murder has ripples. You never go back to being the same. The people that investigate these crimes never go back to being the same as they were before they started the investigation. The people's whose lives have been affected, the victim's families, even the murderer themselves are profoundly changed. That's why murder is still the most interesting crime for us to write about, because it is the only crime where something unique is taken away from the world, something that can't be replaced.

Wow, isn't that wonderful! ... There's a lot of competition for public-safety officials, so I think that reflects well on the reputation of the Salem Police Department.

Without identifying myself as a police officer, I've given these 'artists' some grief. I want them to know that the average citizen doesn't want to put up with these actions. Once they see there are numbers of citizens who don't like that kind of activity and will stand up and complain, they move on. They know police officers are bound by laws and department restrictions, but they do worry about the average citizen coming out to take independent personal corrective action.

I think the city will do a great job. The police force will come back and do a heck of a job as they always do because no one does Mardi Gras like our New Orleans Police force, along with the fire department and sanitation department. Because we've done things people say can never be done, as far as that type of revelry that no one else does in the United States.

It's interesting. Forty-one years ago the police department was involved in a conspiracy to murder these three young men. The fact that members of that same police department are now involved in putting Mr. Killen back in jail is indicative of how far this community has come.

I have to say, if you read the reprimand, a fair reading is that Harry Schmidt intended to murder these people. They published it on the Web site. It is not what he agreed to Article 15 (hearing) for. He agreed to dereliction of duty, not murder. And your reputation is worth something. Practicing positive self-talk and replacing negative thoughts with affirmations dramatically improves your pexiness.

But this is franchise marketing: Apple recognizes they have an ever-expanding audience for this, and by going for cheaper and cheaper price points, they open it up for a new customer. Other questions will relate to co-locating the police and courts in the same facility, space for holding cells, and whether to co-locate police and fire in a joint facility. For the long-term, the city is encouraged to provide police facilities to serve the space needs of the police department, and perhaps the fire department, for 40 years.

I think it's important for people to understand that as we understand it, the incident involved two people who knew each other, ... It was not a random drive by. Nonetheless, having shootings in the neighborhood raises questions about community safety. Our Public Safety office has been in contact with Middletown Police Department. Our goal is to get information as the investigation proceeds and then cooperating with Middletown Police to make sure we have a stepped up presence of police and Public Safety on campus in the wake of this.

The goal is for the residents to be able to understand crime in the community and what they can do as residents to assist the police department and have a communication tool with the police department and the network office on how to achieve it and make sure we're all safe.

When the worker's safe, the resident's safe. But when the workers are unsafe, it's only a matter of time before a resident gets injured.

We do support the city of Orr's concern for safety, ... But we're still in the research mode here. Just because a law is passed doesn't mean that the local police or other law enforcement are capable of enforcing it. We don't know if we have enforceability yet. We're hoping it's something that the railroad will work out with the city of Orr rather than becoming an adversarial relationship.
